Job summary

NZ Playcentre Federation is seeking a Centre Coordinator for a part-time role (3 hours per week) starting 12 October 2026, Tue 9.00am–12.00pm. You will work with centre whānau to build adult capability and leadership.

You will provide pedagogical guidance to Playcentre whānau, ensuring sessions reflect Playcentre Philosophy and enrich children’s learning and development, with a focus on Te Tiriti o Waitangi.

Qualifications

  • Experience building adult capability and leadership in early childhood.
  • Knowledge of Te Whāriki and ECE regulations.
  • First Aid certification valid.
  • NZ residency or valid NZ work visa.

Responsibilities

  • Developing whānau to be educators with rich, child-led curriculum.
  • Role-model and support high-quality, whānau-led sessions.
  • Provide advice on curriculum, adult education, and health and safety.
  • Ensure sessions meet health, safety and regulatory requirements.
  • Promote Māori cultural values and Te Tiriti o Waitangi.

About the role:

Working in collaboration with centre whānau and other centre support staff, the Centre Coordinator focuses on building adult capability and confidence. This enables adults to progressively take greater leadership in sessions and centre responsibilities, supporting a whānau-led environment.

As the Person Responsible on session, this role provides high quality support and pedagogical guidance to Playcentre whānau. The Centre Coordinator ensures sessions and programmes reflect Playcentre Philosophy and enriches children’s learning and development.

Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Developing whānau to be the first and best educators for their tamariki by ensuring rich, meaningful, child-led curriculum experiences
  • Role-modelling and supporting the delivery of high quality, whānau-led sessions
  • Providing advice and support to centre whānau focusing on curriculum, adult education and health and safety to support session delivery
  • Ensure sessions meet regulatory and legislative requirements including Health and Safety obligations
  • Recognise the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and how they relate to Playcentre and actively engage in promotion of Māori cultural values
About you:

You will be confident building and maintaining strong relationships, providing guidance and solutions with a centre-focused approach.

You will also have:

  • Passion for Playcentre philosophy and empowering whānau
  • Course 3 of the Playcentre Education Diploma or equivalent ECE Qualification Level 4+
  • Confidence using technology to support learning & administration
  • Strong knowledge of Te Whāriki, ECE regulations, and a commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi
  • Hold and maintain appropriate First Aid certification
  • NZ residency or a valid NZ work visa
