Job summary

KiwiRail Freight in Wellington is seeking casual Catering Assistants to support our Production Kitchen at Kaiwharawhara. You will help prepare and package sandwiches, sushi, salads and hot dishes in a fast-paced team, with a strong focus on food hygiene and safety.

Experience in food preparation or hospitality is ideal; you should be self-motivated, able to work unsupervised at times, and flexible for weekend shifts.

We are looking for casual Catering Assistants to support our kitchen team at our Production Kitchen, Hutt Road, Kaiwharawhara. Ideally, you’ll have some experience working in food preparation or hospitality and are keen to learn and understand the principals of good food hygiene. These are casual/on call roles and may include working in the weekend.

You’ll be busy with the preparation and packaging of sandwiches, sushi, salads and hot dishes and working in a collaborative team environment, including cooks who bake an array of sausage rolls, pastries etc.

A high standard of safety and food hygiene is expected at all times, along with providing our internal and external customers with an exceptional food experience and service, strengthening the brand of Interislander.

To succeed, you will have some experience working in food preparation, ideally in a kitchen or hospitality environment. You will be self-motivated with a "can do" attitude and be able to work unsupervised.

Your sound interpersonal skills and teamwork attitude must be top notch!

We need team members who are flexible and reliable; it's a busy team who work to tight operational requirements to supply great food to the Interislander and KiwiRail and everyone pulls together.
