Job summary

New Zealand Police – Greymouth, South Island, is seeking Casual Custody Officers to join the Custody Unit. Two casual positions based in Greymouth with a starting salary of $75,495.00 (pro rata). Successful applicants will complete online psychometric testing and pass the Physical Competency Test (PCT).

You will manage detainee welfare across custody suites, court houses and transit, ensuring care and safety. Training at NZ Police College in Wellington or Auckland is required for four weeks.

Qualifications

• Hold a full New Zealand Driver Licence.
• Be a New Zealand citizen or hold permanent residence.
• Be physically fit and able to pass a fitness assessment.
• Be willing to complete a pre-employment Medical Assessment (including a drug test).
• Be able to work varying shifts, including weekends and public holidays.

As a New Zealand Police Custody Officer, you will join our highly skilled and professional team to manage the health and safety of detainee’s whilst they are in our custody and during transit.

This is an exciting opportunity to join our Custody Unit based in Greymouth. As a Custody Officer, you will manage and maintain the welfare of people detained in our care across our Custody Suites, Court Houses and in transit within the Greymouth District. Through an empathetic approach, you treat everyone in a dignified manner regardless of their circumstances.

West Coast area covers from Karamea in the North to Haast in the South. The main town is Greymouth with Westport in the North and Hokitika in the South. It’s a diverse region with great lifestyle benefits. The West Coast is part of the Tasman Policing district in the South island of New Zealand

• You will be able to uncover and collect information using your active listening and communication skills.
• You will be resilient when faced with adverse situations, maintaining composure, and working alongside team members to mitigate and de-escalate potential risk.
• You will work collaboratively with external stakeholders to ensure appropriate care and support for vulnerable detainees is available.
• In a fluid operational environment, you must be adaptable to change, remain vigilant to detainee needs and maintain high standards of professionalism that align with our business
• Demonstrate commitment to ongoing training.
