About the position
The Residential Carpenter will undertake carpentry and general construction work on residential properties, including new builds, renovations, alterations, repairs and property improvement projects.
The role requires competent carpentry skills, attention to detail, the ability to interpret plans and specifications, safe operation of hand and power tools, and compliance with workplace health and safety requirements.
Duties and responsibilities
- Study and interpret building plans, drawings, sketches and specifications to determine dimensions, materials and construction requirements.
- Install and construct foundations, walls, floors, ceilings, roof structures and other building components using appropriate construction materials.
- Measure, cut, shape and assemble timber and other construction materials to specified measurements using hand tools, power tools and machinery.
- Construct, erect and install timber framing, roof framing and other structural components.
- Fit and install window frames, doors, door frames, door hardware, interior and exterior trims and other building fixtures.
- Build, install, repair and replace frameworks, floors, doors, cabinets and other timber fixtures and structures.
- Assemble and fasten construction materials using nails, screws, bolts, dowels, adhesives and other appropriate fixing methods.
- Repair or replace damaged or defective parts of buildings and structures.
- Inspect timber work, wall coverings, flooring, ceilings, cladding and other building components for damage or defects.
- Use carpenter's levels, laser levels and other measuring equipment to ensure structures are level, plumb and correctly positioned.
- Erect and use ladders and scaffolding safely where required to undertake construction work.
- Operate hand tools, power tools and construction equipment safely and efficiently.
- Assist with general construction duties where required, including moving materials and maintaining the worksite.
- Maintain clean, organised and safe work areas.
- Follow company health and safety procedures and all applicable workplace safety requirements.
- Work independently and collaboratively with supervisors, subcontractors and other team members.
- Complete assigned work within reasonable project deadlines and required quality standards.
- Communicate effectively with supervisors, other workers and clients where required.
- Perform other carpentry and related construction duties reasonably assigned by the supervisor or management team.
These duties closely reflect the Carpenter Schedule A you supplied, including framing, roofs, doors and windows, interpreting plans, cutting materials, repairs, tool operation, general construction work and site safety.
Minimum requirements
Applicants must have:
- At least two years of relevant and verifiable carpentry work experience.
- Demonstrated experience carrying out residential carpentry and construction work relevant to the duties described above.
- Ability to read and follow building plans, drawings, measurements and job specifications.
- Ability to safely and competently use common carpentry hand tools and power tools.
- An understanding of workplace health and safety requirements applicable to construction sites.
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a construction team.
