Job summary

Ministry of Health is seeking an Information Analyst in Wellington to transform cancer data into actionable insights and dashboards. You’ll turn raw datasets into stories guiding decisions across Te Aho o Te Kahu, collaborating with sector partners to publish high-priority statistics.

You’ll leverage SQL, R, or Python (with a preference for R/Shiny), apply SNOMED CT analytics, and ensure data quality while embracing Te Tiriti o Waitangi and equity in all work.

Qualifications

• A relevant tertiary qualification (or equivalent experience) and strong analytical capability.
• Proficiency in SQL, R, or Python, with preference for R/Shiny; knowledge of SNOMED CT and AI/ML concepts is an advantage.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder-engagement skills, including gathering requirements and translating technical insights for diverse audiences.
• Strong project planning, time management, and data quality skills—able to cleanse, validate, and deliver high-quality analysis to deadlines.
• Understanding of Māori tikanga and kawa, and a commitment to upholding Te Tiriti o Waitangi and equity principles in all work.

Responsibilities

• Deliver high-quality analysis and insights using SNOMED CT ontology-based analytics.
• Create accessible information products: develop and publish data products such as reports, analyses, and interactive R Shiny dashboards.
• Collaborate with stakeholders to understand needs and develop fit-for-purpose knowledge products.
• Advance data quality and understanding: cleanse, validate, and ensure data quality to the highest standard.
• Embed equity and Te Tiriti obligations in all work and support monitoring frameworks.
