Job summary

Ministry of Health New Zealand based in Wellington seeks an analyst to apply quantitative thinking and modelling to health policy challenges. You will work with colleagues and stakeholders to develop analytical approaches and provide evidence to support better decisions and outcomes.

Around half the role is quantitative analysis and modelling, with the rest focused on stakeholder needs, interpreting results, and advising policy-makers. Collaboration and Te Tiriti responsibilities are valued.

Qualifications

• Experience applying quantitative methods to policy or strategic questions, including statistical modelling, econometrics, forecasting, or related analyses.
• Strong problem solving and critical thinking to grasp complex issues quickly.
• Ability to work with ambiguity, frame problems, and select appropriate analytical approaches.
• Clear communication of quantitative results to technical and non-technical audiences.

Responsibilities

• Synthesize information from diverse sources and communicate evidence-based advice to decision-makers.
• Apply statistical and economic modelling to policy scenarios using complex health datasets.
• Lead analytical projects, mentor team members, and share skills.
• Build relationships across the Ministry and health sector to support pae ora—healthy futures for all New Zealanders.
