Job summary

New Zealand Defence Force – Burnham, South Island, is seeking an administrative professional for a part-time role (20 hours per week) based at Burnham Military Camp. The successful applicant will cover reception, general office administration and front office coordination, with opportunities to contribute and grow within the team.

Hours are typically spread across Monday to Friday, with flexibility discussed at interview. Prior administrative experience and strong MS Office skills are essential.

Job description

New Zealand Defence Force – Burnham, South Island

As a valued member of the team and ‘go to person’ for the front office, you’ll be responsible for the following key areas:

Reception and general office administration.

Coordinating front office requirements and registration of visitors.

Manage the cost centre purchase orders and allowances as required.

Document and record management.

Ordering general office supplies for the unit.

There will be plenty of opportunity for you to grow with this role, adding your own magic to the mix!

Based within the Youth Development Unit at Burnham Military Camp, this role is part-time, 20 hours per week. Ideally, hours will be spread across Monday to Friday however, specific hours and availability can be discussed more fully at interview.

Along with having previous administrative experience our team are looking for someone who has the following key skills:

High level of organisational skills and strong attention to detail.

Ability to manage multiple tasks with ease, flexible and adaptive to changing priorities.

Self –motivation, proactively managing any problems with ease.

Effective team player who communicates confidently with others and build positive working relationships.

Strong IT skills and knowledge, particularly confident using the MS Office Suite.

A Class 1 Full Driver’s Licence (beneficial)

To be eligible for the required level of government security clearance with the NZ Defence Force, you need to meet certain citizenship and residency criteria. Here’s what you need to know:

Low Level Security Clearance

You must be a New Zealand citizen or you must hold New Zealand Permanent Residence or have a current New Zealand Residency Class Visa.

At minimum, you must hold New Zealand Permanent Residence or have a current New Zealand Residency Class Visa, and you must be a citizen of and have lived in Australia, Canada, United Kingdom, United States of America or New Zealand continuously for the last five (5) years.

You must have a five (5) year background history that can be verified and assessed appropriately by the NZ Security Intelligence Service (NZSIS) to determine if you are suitable for a security clearance at this level.
