We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Business Development Manager to join the Auckland Convention Bureau on a two-year fixed-term contract. In this role, you will deliver measurable sales results and help grow Auckland’s share of the domestic and international business-events market, with a strong focus on increasing visitation and economic impact across the city centre.

Through targeted sales and marketing activities, you will generate and convert bids, leads and new business opportunities while positioning Auckland as a premium business-events destination. You will promote the services of the Auckland Convention Bureau and the benefits of hosting events in Tāmaki Makaurau, while delivering value and return on investment for key stakeholders including members of the destination partnership programme.

In this role, you will:

  • Contribute to and deliver the annual sales plan, actively identifying, developing and converting bids, leads and business-event opportunities.
  • Research new clients to build a strong sales pipeline across priority sectors and domestic and international markets.
  • Lead sales missions, trade shows, site inspections, familiarisation visits, client networking functions and targeted marketing activities.
  • Represent Auckland as a destination specialist, confidently promoting the city and the Auckland Convention Bureau’s services to clients and industry stakeholders.
  • Build trusted relationships with clients, destination partners and industry organisations to create joint opportunities, grow revenue and increase business-event visitation to Auckland’s city centre.

You will be a confident and credible ambassador for the Auckland Convention Bureau, with the ability to promote Auckland as a leading business-events destination and build lasting relationships across the sector. You will bring strong sales, marketing and customer‑engagement capabilities, supported by excellent communication, presentation, negotiation and interpersonal skills.

Commercially minded and solutions‑focused, you will act decisively to maximise opportunities, apply sound professional judgement and use customer insights and CRM systems to strengthen engagement and deliver responsive service. You will also be innovative in your approach, continuously looking for ways to improve processes and create greater value for clients, partners and stakeholders.

You will also have:

  • Essential experience within the business-events, tourism or destination‑marketing sector, with a strong understanding of how to sell and promote a city.
  • Proven sales and marketing experience, ideally supported by experience planning, promoting or delivering business events.
  • Demonstrated success in building and sustaining trusted relationships while identifying and converting commercial opportunities.
  • The flexibility to travel throughout New Zealand and work outside standard business hours when required, including attending or hosting evening and weekend events.

At TAU, you will join a dynamic, supportive environment where your mahi (work) will directly impact the lives of over 1.7 million Aucklanders. We offer flexible working conditions, a focus on well‑being, and a culture of continuous improvement.
