Job summary

Auckland Council's Henderson Hub is seeking an experienced Building Surveyor Inspector to manage their own inspection portfolio within the Henderson area. You will assess building work for compliance with consents, codes and the Building Act, and provide clear guidance to builders, homeowners, architects and developers.

You will travel across the region, apply sound technical judgement, maintain robust records, and contribute to a safe, high-quality built environment while enjoying flexible

Qualifications

  • Experience with building codes, regulations or similar inspection roles.
  • At least 5 years in a building-related environment.

Our Henderson based Field Surveying team is looking for an experienced building industry professional to join their team as a Building Inspector. In this role, you’ll take ownership of your own portfolio, build strong relationships across the region, and play an important part in delivering safe, high quality outcomes for our communities.

You will be responsible for conducting building inspections across your coverage area,to ensure compliance with all relevant legislative and safety requirements. You will have the opportunity to travel around the region, receive comprehensive training and support, and the autonomy to make necessary decisions so that our customers can experience a seamless process with us. You will be working with clients from various sectors of the development community, such as builders, homeowners, architects and developers, providing them with the proper guidance and advice on compliant building practices.

Day-to-day you could expect to work on:

  • Inspect building work to ensure compliance with building consents, building codes,building consent authority’s ‘BCA’ policies,and other legislative requirements, and make appropriate technical decisions on inspection outcomes
  • Help increase customer understanding of the building code and Council processes by providing accurate and timely advice in a customer centric manner
  • Apply sound reasons for decisions and maintain accurate, robust records of inspections

This role requires experience in similar building related roles, with a sound understanding of building design, construction, structural integrity, the Building Code, and the Building Act. We are looking for someone who has a deep knowledge of building compliance and is motivated by helping others understand and meet these requirements. You will need to apply strong technical knowledge, communication skills, and a customer-focused approach to everything you do.We will be looking for specific experience with:

  • Relevant qualification(s) such as the National Diploma in Building Control Surveying, an equivalent professional qualification (IANZ accepted) or be willing to work towards achieving the necessary qualifications.
  • Relevant experience working with building codes, regulations, or in a comparable inspection role would be an advantage
  • At least 5 years of cumulative experience in a building-related environment
  • A comprehensive understanding of the Building Act, Building Code, and technical & structural integrity aspects of construction standards and/or building design
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, and a proven ability to interact with a range of stakeholders
  • Strong customer service focus with a solution oriented approach, while upholding high ethical standards during inspections and enforcement activities
  • The ability to manage competing demands and resolve conflicts effectively
  • A full, clean NZ Driver’s License is required to travel to different inspection sites

The remuneration range for this role is $91,027 – $ 100,000 per annum (Based on skills & experience)
