Job summary

Health New Zealand - Te Whatu Ora Waikato seeks an experienced General Surgeon with Breast and Oncoplastic subspecialty for a fixed-term role at Waikato Hospital to cover parental leave. You will provide broad General Surgery with a focus on breast disease within a multidisciplinary service across the Waikato region.

The role includes dedicated clinics, operating lists for General and Breast Surgery, weekly breast MDMs, and involvement in service development, audit, teaching, and on-call

Qualifications

• Vocational registration in General Surgery with MCNZ.
• Fellowship-level training in Breast and Oncoplastic Surgery.
• Experience managing broad General Surgery cases including breast disease.
• Excellent communication and collaborative working skills.
• Current APC and medical indemnity cover.
• Understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and its healthcare applications.

Responsibilities

• Deliver high-quality elective and acute General Surgery services including breast disease.
• Assess and manage patients with benign and malignant breast conditions.
• Perform breast procedures: breast-conserving surgery, mastectomy, sentinel node surgery, axillary dissection, oncoplastic techniques.
