Job summary

Rotorua Sulphur City Bakery Limited is seeking a Senior Bakery Assistant to support our bakers and pastry cooks with daily bakery preparation and production.

The role offers permanent, full-time hours with early start times (2:00 am), weekend shifts and a minimum of 30 hours per week; reliable transport is required for rostered shifts. Previous bakery experience and strong food-safety knowledge are essential.

Qualifications

• At least 12 months of relevant commercial bakery or pastry-production experience.
• Practical experience weighing and measuring ingredients and preparing materials.
• Experience assisting with dough or sourdough preparation, kneading, portioning or shaping.
• Experience safely operating commercial bakery equipment.
• Understanding of food safety, cleanliness, allergen control and WHS requirements.

Responsibilities

• Gather and prepare ingredients required by bakers and pastry cooks.
• Accurately weigh and measure flour, yeast, sugar, fats and other ingredients.
• Prepare baking trays, tins, utensils, workstations and equipment before production.
• Assist with routine dough and sourdough preparation under supervision.
• Assist with mixing, kneading, dividing, portioning, shaping and placing dough.
• Safely operate mixers, kneading machines and other bakery equipment.
• Monitor preparation and production processes and report concerns.
• Store ingredients, equipment and finished products properly.
• Rotate stock and inform staff when supplies run low.
