Job summary

Walker Smith in Christchurch is seeking an Intermediate .NET Developer to join a tight-knit team focused on backend services and AI-assisted workflows. You will develop services and APIs in C#/.NET, connect an in-house language model to data, and collaborate with senior developers in an agile environment.

You’ll work on features that model customer behaviour, reduce manual tasks, and improve production quality.

Qualifications

• 2-4 years' commercial experience in C# and .NET.
• Experience building and consuming REST APIs with SQL Server knowledge.
• Exposure to Azure cloud platforms.
• Real experience using AI coding tools, and curiosity about LLM APIs and agents.
• Solid fundamentals in object-oriented design, testing, source control and agile delivery.
• An ambitious, quick-learning attitude and a habit of asking good questions.
• Able to talk through your own code and comfortable writing some live in a technical interview.
• No front-end skills needed, as this is a backend role.

Responsibilities

• Building backend services and APIs in C# and .NET that power AI agents, conversational assistants and automated workflows.
• Connecting an in-house language model to customer, pricing and transaction data.
• Helping deliver features that predict customer behaviour and remove repetitive manual work.
• Using AI coding assistants daily to move faster, then checking and testing what they produce before it goes anywhere near production.
• Having your code reviewed by senior developers, learning from it, and reviewing the work of others.
• Working with analysts in an agile delivery stream to turn rough ideas into working software.
• Taking part in the AI user group and bringing new tools and techniques back to the team.
