Job summary

Quantifi Photonics, part of the Teradyne family, is seeking an experienced Automation Engineer for the NPI group in Auckland. You will own automation solutions for test and calibration systems across development and ramping to high-volume production.

You will develop Python-based automation, integrate instrumentation, and drive improvements in test efficiency and measurement capability. Collaboration with Engineering and Manufacturing is essential.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical/Computer Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Photonics, Optoelectronics or related field.
  • 5+ years experience developing automated test or calibration systems.
  • Experience with automated manufacturing test systems.
  • Experience with electronic and optical test instrumentation.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience in product development, NPI or manufacturing.
  • Experience using Git and Jira.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills.
  • Nice to have knowledge of photonics or fibre-optic instrumentation.
  • Experience with SCPI or similar instrument protocols.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, maintain and improve automated test and calibration systems using Python and associated software tools.
  • Design and implement calibration methodologies and automated test workflows for new products.
  • Integrate laboratory and manufacturing instrumentation into automated test systems.
  • Develop and maintain test system software, hardware configurations and supporting documentation.
  • Analyse product requirements to determine manufacturing test and calibration needs.
  • Develop calibration plans, test procedures and acceptance criteria.
  • Support DVT, PVT and production qualification activities.
  • Ensure test stations and training materials are ready prior to product release.
  • Conduct station validation, qualification and acceptance before deployment.
  • Support manufacturing investigations into calibration issues, test failures and yield concerns.
  • Analyse production data to identify yield and efficiency improvements.
  • Support MSA, GR&R and measurement uncertainty investigations.
  • Deliver technical training and support to Manufacturing and Engineering teams.
  • Provide technical leadership and mentoring to engineers and technicians.
  • Drive continuous improvement to reduce test time and increase throughput.

Opportunity Overview

We are seeking an experienced Automation Engineer to join our NPI group in Engineering team and play a key role in the development, deployment and continuous improvement of automated test and calibration systems used throughout product development and manufacturing. This role works closely with Engineering and Manufacturing teams to develop automation solutions, calibration methodologies and manufacturing test systems that support new product introduction and ramping up to high-volume production. The successful candidate will own the lifecycle of manufacturing test and calibration stations from concept and development through validation, production acceptance, deployment, documentation, training and sustaining support. You will contribute to the successful transfer of new products into manufacturing while driving improvements in product quality, manufacturing efficiency and measurement capability.

  • Develop, maintain and improve automated test and calibration systems using Python and associated software tools.
  • Design and implement calibration methodologies and automated test workflows for new products.

  • Deliver technical training and support to Manufacturing and Engineering teams.
  • Provide technical leadership and mentoring to engineers and technicians.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on reducing test time, increasing throughput and improving manufacturing readiness.

  • Experience with oscilloscopes, optical power meters, tunable laser sources, optical switches and related instrumentation.
  • Experience analysing production, yield or calibration data.
  • Understanding of statistical analysis, MSA, GR&R and process capability methods.
  • Experience supporting manufacturing test stations in a high-mix manufacturing environment.
  • Familiarity with ISO 17025 principles and measurement uncertainty concepts.
