Job summary

Mitre 10 MEGA Cambridge is seeking an experienced garden retail professional to join our Garden Centre leadership team as Assistant Garden Team Leader. You will support the Garden Team Leader in delivering outstanding customer service, garden expertise, and strong merchandising.

This hands-on leadership role is 40 hours per week, including one weekend day. You will help manage day-to-day operations, motivate the team, and ensure our customers receive knowledgeable advice and great service.

Qualifications

• Strong practical knowledge of gardening, plants, green goods and garden products.
• Experience leading, supervising or coordinating a team.
• Passion for gardening with ability to advise customers.
• Customer-first approach and ability to meet customer needs.
• Ability to lead by example and maintain team morale.

Responsibilities

• Assist Garden Team Leader in daily operations of the Garden Centre.
• Help maintain high retail standards, stock levels, and merchandising.
• Provide knowledgeable customer advice and service.
• Step up to lead in the absence of the Garden Team Leader.
• Work a 40-hour roster, including at least one weekend day.

We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced garden retail professional to join our Garden Centre leadership team as Assistant Garden Team Leader.

We are looking for someone with strong gardening and plant knowledge, proven experience in leading and motivating a team, and a genuine passion for delivering outstanding customer service.

Working alongside the Garden Team Leader, you will take an active role in the day-to-day running of the department, supporting the team, maintaining high retail standards, and ensuring our customers receive knowledgeable advice and great service.

What you'll bring

To succeed in this role, you will have:

• Strong practical knowledge of gardening, plants, green goods and associated garden products
• Previous experience leading, supervising or coordinating a team
• A genuine passion for gardening and the confidence to provide knowledgeable advice to customers
• A strong customer-first approach with the ability to understand and meet our customers' needs
• The ability to lead by example, motivate others and create a positive team environment
• Excellent communication and organisational skills
• Previous retail experience, including stock management and maintaining strong merchandising standards
• The ability to work collaboratively with the Garden Team Leader while confidently stepping up and providing leadership when required
• A proactive, hands-on approach with the drive to help achieve departmental goals and targets
• Ideally, a current forklift licence, or a clean full driver's licence with the ability to complete the required training

The role

As Assistant Garden Team Leader, you will help ensure our Garden Centre delivers a consistently high standard across customer service, product knowledge, stock management, presentation and team performance.

This is very much a hands-on leadership position, so we're looking for someone who is equally comfortable helping a customer with a gardening question, working alongside the team, and taking responsibility for the department when required.

The position is 40hours per week and operates on a roster basis and will include one weekend day.
