Commerce Commission – Wellington, North Island invites applications for an inquisitive Assistant Analyst or Analyst to join the Groceries team on a fixed-term basis. The role focuses on data-driven regulatory and market analysis within New Zealand’s grocery sector.

The position can be based in Tāmaki Makaurau (Auckland) or Te Whanganui-a-Tara (Wellington). You will gather information, analyse trends, engage industry participants and contribute to evidence-based regulatory advice.

Join a team helping improve competition, transparency and outcomes in New Zealand's grocery sector.

Our Market Regulation branch is looking for an inquisitive and self-driven Assistant Analyst or Analyst to join our Groceries team. We are particularly interested in applicants who enjoy working with data and using quantitative and qualitative analysis to solve complex regulatory and market problems.

The grocery sector is a $22 billion a year industry and plays an important role in the lives of all New Zealanders. We need people with the capability and passion for this mahi to continue our positive impact on competition in the sector.

This is a fixed term opportunity for 9 months that can be based in either Tāmaki Makaurau (Auckland) or Te Whanganui-a-Tara (Wellington).

Our Market Regulation branch carries out challenging and impactful work to improve competition in regulated markets and make New Zealanders better off.

Within this role you will:

  • gather and critically analyse information, identify key issues, draw logical conclusions and communicate these to decision makers
  • engage with industry participants
  • develop a strong understanding of industry trends and factors impacting the grocery sector
  • analyse market, operational and financial information to identify trends and insights
  • contribute to evidence-based regulatory advice and decision making

You will work across a variety of projects within multidisciplinary teams of lawyers, economists, analysts and regulatory specialists.

The indicativesalary range for these positions are: Assistant Analyst is $81,083 - $95,392, Analyst $94,025 - $110,618. Our 3.5% KiwiSaver employer contribution is additional to this. The successful candidate will be appointed at a starting salary which reflects their individual skills, experience, and internal relativities across the organisation.

Relevant backgrounds may include economics, statistics, finance, accounting, engineering, data analytics, commerce, public policy, regulation, auditing or research.

For the Assistant Analyst role, we would consider someone with an internship in a related field, or at least six months' work experience post-qualification. For the Analyst role, we would expect applicants to have at least two years' experience in a related field.
