Babbage Consultants in Auckland is seeking an Assistant Accountant to join the Finance team. You will take ownership of payroll and a broad range of day-to-day and month-end accounting activities across our New Zealand and Australian businesses.

This hands-on role suits someone who values accuracy, enjoys variety and wants to build broader accounting experience. You will work closely with the Financial Controller and project accountants to ensure robust financial processes.

Qualifications

• Experience in an Assistant Accountant or accounting support role.
• Knowledge of New Zealand payroll and GST requirements.
• NZ work rights and a relevant qualification or equivalent experience.
• Proficient in Excel and payroll systems.
• Ability to handle confidential information with integrity.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate payroll across NZ and AU, ensuring timely processing.
• Manage day-to-day accounting: receivables, payables, expenses, banking, and credit control.
• Support month-end: journals, accruals, prepayments, reconciliations.
• Complete GST, tax and finance reconciliations with clear schedules.
• Investigate discrepancies and identify opportunities to improve finance processes.
