Job summary

Laminex NZ is seeking an Assistant Accountant to strengthen our Finance team in Penrose. You’ll support day-to-day finance operations including treasury, invoicing, reconciliations, month-end reporting, fixed assets, and compliance in a dynamic manufacturing environment.

You will collaborate with stakeholders across the business, contribute to process improvements, and help maintain accurate financial records while upskilling in NZ GST/FBT and IFRS 16 compliance.

Qualifications

• Degree in Accounting; CPA qualified or working towards.
• Strong understanding of debits/credits and ledger flow.
• Experience with IFRS 16 lease accounting and compliance.

Responsibilities

• Support FX/treasury activities and hedge documentation.
• Process FX supplier invoices, payments, reconciliations, accruals.
• Post month-end journals and assist period-end close.
• Maintain fixed asset register and depreciation.
• Complete balance sheet reconciliations and investigate items.
• Assist with GST, FBT and statutory compliance.

The Opportunity

We're seeking an Assistant Accountant to join our Finance team in Penrose. In this varied role, you'll play an important part in supporting the day-to-day operations of the finance function, with exposure across treasury, invoice processing, reconciliations, month-end reporting, fixed asset administration, and compliance activities. Working closely with stakeholders across the business, you'll help maintain accurate financial records, support strong financial controls, contribute to continuous improvement initiatives, and ensure the integrity of our financial information in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Support foreign exchange (FX) and treasury activities, including maintaining hedge documentation and payment processing.
• Process FX supplier invoices, payment runs, reconciliations, accruals and IFRS 16 leases and compliance requirements.
• Prepare and post month-end journals and support timely period-end close activities.
• Maintain the fixed asset register, including additions, disposals, and depreciation.
• Complete balance sheet reconciliations and investigate outstanding items.
• Administer P-Cards and employee expense processes to ensure integrity of all claims.
• Assist with GST, FBT, and other statutory compliance requirements.
• Support internal and external audit activities.
• Assist with year-end reporting and close procedures.
• Provide financial support and guidance to stakeholders across the business.
• Contribute to identifying and implementing process improvements.

About You

• A degree in Accounting, CPA qualified (or working towards), with 2-3 years' experience within supply chain operations or a manufacturing environment.
• Strong technical accounting foundations: you’re confident with debits and credits and understand how transactions flow through to the ledger.
• Proven experience managing IFRS 16 lease accounting and related compliance requirements.
• Experience across a range of finance functions, such as AP, AR, reconciliations, month-end reporting, or compliance.
• Working knowledge of New Zealand GST and FBT requirements.
• High attention to detail and strong analytical skills.
• Advanced Excel skills, confident with IF, VLOOKUP, MATCH, and scenario modelling
• Strong communication skills with the ability to build and maintain effective stakeholder relationships.
• A continuous improvement mindset and openness to new technology and ways of working.
• The ability to manage competing priorities and consistently meet deadlines.
• A proactive, hands-on approach and willingness to get into the detail.
• Familiarity with AI-enabled tools and an interest in leveraging technology to improve efficiencies.
• Experience with ERP systems such as Workday, BPCS/IBS, or AssetPro is advantageous.
