Job summary

New Zealand Police plays an important part across Aotearoa, alongside our sector partners, in reducing harm on our roads through road safety prevention, education and enforcement activities. The National Road Policing Centre (NRPC) plays a critical role in facilitating and enabling Police to deliver road safety activities by providing important services to the Commissioner, Police Executive and Districts. The NRPC is made up of specialist teams that provide strategic and operational support to enable our frontline to keep people safe on our roads.

This is an exciting opportunity to join the Strategy and Finance team in one of two newly established Asset Advisor roles. You will help build and embed a national approach to road policing asset management, supporting a portfolio of specialist operational equipment that enables frontline road safety activities in New Zealand.

Reporting to the Senior Advisor: Finance and Assets, you will contribute to the full asset lifecycle, including asset planning, utilisation monitoring, maintenance and repair programmes, contract and supplier management, replacement planning, investment forecasting alongside our finance team, and performance reporting. You will play a key role in improving Police's understanding of asset condition, capability, and future investment needs, helping ensure our frontline staff have the right equipment, in the right place, at the right time.

Key Accountabilities

• Support the development and implementation of a national road policing asset lifecycle programme.
• Monitor asset performance, utilisation, maintenance and replacement requirements across the road policing asset portfolio.
• Contribute to asset investment planning, forecasting, business cases, and reporting to support evidence-based decision making.
• Coordinate asset maintenance, repairs, contracts, and supplier relationships to maximise asset availability and value.

What you'll bring

You may come from an asset management, finance, procurement, operations, planning, logistics, or business advisory background. Most importantly, you’ll be comfortable navigating ambiguity, building relationships, analysing information, and turning insight into action.

The successful candidate will be expected to work flexibly and collaboratively across several work groups within and external to NRPC. They will also be able to demonstrate:

• Experience in asset management, finance, investment planning, procurement, logistics, business analysis, or a related field.
• Ability to analyse data and information to identify trends, risks, opportunities and future investment requirements.
• Strong relationship management skills, with the ability to work effectively across a range of operational and corporate stakeholders.
• Experience establishing or improving processes, systems, or ways of working.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present information clearly and influence decision-making.
• Ability to manage competing priorities and deliver quality outcomes in a dynamic environment.

Special requirements

• Tertiary qualification advantageous in a relevant field such as Asset Management, Business Administration, Logistics or Supply Chain, Finance, Public Sector Management or Information Systems.

Salary

This position is covered by a collective agreement and salary will commence between $96,008 and $101,632 dependent on skills and experience relevant to the role.
