Job summary

Fulton Hogan in Palmerston North is seeking an Asphalt Laboratory Technician to support testing and reporting of asphalt and pavement materials. This hands-on role ensures work is delivered safely, on time, and to a high standard, with a focus on quality and continuous learning in a collaborative team.

You will collect samples, perform compliant lab testing, and help keep equipment, methods, and results sharp while staying up to date with pavement technology.

Qualifications

• Experience in civil or asphalt materials testing or strong technical capability with a willingness to learn.
• Good planning, self-management and PC skills including Microsoft Office.
• Understanding of quality assurance; ISO17025 knowledge preferred.
• Full Class 1 driver licence and ability to lift within safe limits.
• Practical, reliable, team-focused with strong safety mindset.

Responsibilities

• Collect samples and complete asphalt and materials testing in line with required specifications and Fulton Hogan lab IANZ requirements.
• Maintain equipment checks and calibration so the laboratory runs safely, accurately, and efficiently.
• Analyse results and provide clear reporting for relevant focus areas and clients.
• Follow all safety, environmental, and quality processes, and speak up when something is not right.
• Stay up to date with pavement design, pavement delivery, and pavement product technologies, while contributing ideas to improve the way we work.

We’re looking for an Asphalt Laboratory Technician to join our team in Palmerston North. This is a hands-on role where you’ll support the testing and reporting of asphalt and pavement materials to ensure we deliver good work safely, on time, and to a high standard.

You’ll be trusted to collect samples, carry out compliant laboratory testing, and help keep our equipment, methods, and results sharp. It’s a role for someone who likes practical work, takes pride in quality, and wants to keep learning in a team that’s flat, friendly, and serious when it counts.
