Job summary

Synechron is seeking an experienced Senior Android Engineer to design, develop, and modernize mobile banking solutions for the NZ market. You will lead Kotlin-based Android apps, implement Jetpack Compose, and collaborate with stakeholders to deliver scalable, secure systems.

You will mentor teams, optimize performance, ensure CI/CD and DevSecOps practices, and help transition legacy architectures to modern MVVM modular designs in a banking environment.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of Android app development experience.
• Strong Kotlin and Jetpack Compose expertise.
• Experience with Android SDK and Architecture Components.
• Experience delivering digital banking, payments and financial services apps.
• Experience in NZ banking environments.
• Knowledge of MVVM, Clean Architecture, DI and modular development.
• Experience with APIs, microservices, cloud platforms.
• Security practices in mobile apps; secure coding.

About the Role:

• Design, develop, and enhance Android applications using Kotlin and Jetpack Compose.
• Lead mobile modernization initiatives, including migration from legacy Android frameworks to modern architectures.
• Collaborate with business stakeholders, architects, product teams, and engineers to deliver customer-centric digital banking solutions.
• Build and maintain reusable components, design systems, and scalable application architectures.
• Integrate mobile applications with APIs, cloud platforms, payment gateways, and enterprise services.
• Drive application performance tuning, reliability improvements, and operational excellence.
• Implement security best practices aligned with banking and regulatory requirements.
• Support CI/CD implementation, automated testing, and DevSecOps practices.
• Mentor development teams and contribute to technical leadership initiatives.

Required Skills & Experience:

• 7+ years of Android application development experience.
• Strong expertise in Kotlin, Jetpack Compose, Android SDK, and Android Architecture Components.
• Proven experience delivering digital banking, payment, and financial services applications.
• Experience working in or supporting New Zealand banking environments.
• Strong understanding of MVVM, Clean Architecture, dependency injection, and modular development approaches.
• Experience integrating APIs, microservices, and cloud platforms.
• Knowledge of mobile application security, authentication, encryption, and secure coding standards.
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines, Git-based development workflows, and automated testing frameworks.
• Strong problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills.
