The Treasury in Wellington, New Zealand is seeking Analysts or Senior Analysts for fixed-term or secondment roles to help modernise the annual Budget process. We have exciting opportunities for Analysts or Senior Analysts to join the Treasury for fixed term or secondment opportunities to work on the improvement and modernisation of the annual Budget process.

The Budget and Fiscal Strategy Division delivers high-quality advice on macroeconomic management and fiscal choices, ensures delivery of a robust Budget process that evolves to ensure it remains fit for purpose in delivering high-quality outcomes, and produces quality analysis on planning and executing a programme of capital investment and developing a strategy to manage the Crown’s assets and liabilities, and stewardship on the infrastructure policy system.

The Budget is central to our role as the Government’s chief economic and fiscal advisor, and one of our key levers to lift New Zealand’s living standards. It is an ‘all-of-Treasury’ and all-of-public-service’ effort. However, like any major process we want to modernise and improve it over time to ensure it remains fit for purpose into the next decade. That includes ensuring it is fit for purpose to meet the challenges that face governments over the next decades, including growing demographic and fiscal pressures.

Successful applicants will be responsible for leading or supporting development of policy options for advising on the future of the Budget process. This includes work on how we take a more medium-term view of budgets and trade-offs, how we ensure that we get value from taxpayer money, and how we operate as efficiently and effectively over time.

In addition to working under a specific workstream, you will be contributing to the overall strategic direction of the work. You can expect opportunities to meet with senior Treasury leaders as the work shapes up, and to engage externally.

This is a fixed term, full-time position (40 hours per week) based in Wellington, New Zealand.

We invite applications from candidates at both the Analyst and Senior Analyst level. Prior experience of the Budget process would be useful for some roles, but is not mandatory.

We are open to secondments and short-terms engagements from other agencies.

Alongside those with a general policy skillset, we are also interested in hearing from those with macroeconomic, data and/or project management skills and experience.

Roles are currently available for a period of up to twelve months.

The salaries for these roles are

Senior Analyst Band 18 $127,621.55 to $150,143.00

Analyst Band 16 $91,339.30 to $107,458.00
