Job summary

FirstCape, a leading wealth advisory and asset management firm in New Zealand, seeks an Analyst, Strategy to deliver high-quality analytical support across strategic initiatives and M&A opportunities. You’ll work with the Strategy team, Manager of Strategy, and Head of Corporate Development to shape the organisation’s direction.

The role emphasises financial analysis, market research, and collaboration with senior stakeholders to drive growth and operational improvements in a dynamic environment.

Qualifications

  • 1–3 years’ experience in corporate finance, investment banking, strategy consulting or similar.
  • Strong analytical and financial modelling skills.
  • Advanced Excel and PowerPoint skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Tertiary qualification in Finance, Economics, Commerce or similar.

Responsibilities

  • Support delivery of strategic projects with planning and high-quality analysis.
  • Provide analytical and financial modelling across initiatives and M&A opportunities.
  • Assist with evaluating partnerships and growth opportunities.

About the opportunity | Mo te whai waahi

We’re looking for an Analyst, Strategy to join our Strategy team and provide high-quality analytical, financial and research support across strategic initiatives, business reviews and M&A opportunities.

Working closely with the Manager, Strategy and Director, Head of Corporate Development and Strategy, you’ll help develop the insights, analysis and materials needed to support strategic decision-making across the FirstCape Group. This is an opportunity to contribute to important projects, evaluate growth opportunities and deliver analysis that helps shape the organisation’s strategic direction.

  • Support the delivery of strategic projects alongside the Strategy team and wider FirstCape Leadership Team, including project planning, coordination of inputs and delivery of high-quality analysis.
  • Provide analytical and financial modelling support across strategic initiatives, business reviews and M&A opportunities.
  • Assist with evaluating strategic partnerships and growth opportunities, including due diligence, financial analysis and preparation of recommendations.
  • Support M&A and disposal projects by building and maintaining financial models, conducting research and contributing to investment cases and transaction materials.
  • Conduct market, competitor and industry analysis to identify trends, risks and opportunities, translating your findings into clear insights.
  • Support business planning by analysing Group and business unit financial and operational performance, identifying key drivers and contributing to strategic plans.
  • Undertake detailed analysis of business units and operational performance, gathering data, identifying trends and highlighting areas for improvement or opportunity.
  • Contribute to reviews of cost and revenue models by analysing assumptions and variances and supporting recommendations for optimisation.
  • Prepare clear, accurate and audience-appropriate presentations, reports and materials for internal stakeholders and senior leadership.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders across the business to gather information, test assumptions and support alignment on strategic initiatives.
  • Manage multiple workstreams and priorities while delivering high-quality outputs to agreed timelines.
  • Identify opportunities to improve analytical approaches, tools and data quality within the Strategy function.

What you will bring to the role | He aha ka kawea e koe ki te mahi

  • 1–3 years’ experience in corporate finance, investment banking, transaction services, strategy consulting or a similar analytical environment.
  • Strong analytical and financial modelling skills.
  • Strong analytical thinking and a structured approach to problem-solving.
  • High attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • The ability to build relationships and collaborate with stakeholders across the business.
  • A proactive, self-motivated approach and strong organisational skills.
  • High integrity and the ability to work appropriately with confidential information.
  • A relevant tertiary qualification in Finance, Economics, Commerce or a similar discipline.
  • Advanced Excel skills, with experience performing financial analysis, building or updating financial models, and working with datasets. Experience using AI-enabled tools to support financial analysis would be an advantage.
  • Advanced PowerPoint skills, with the ability to present analysis in clear, logically structured and visually effective presentations.
  • An interest in financial services, wealth management, asset management and New Zealand financial markets.
