Job summary

Ministry for Primary Industries (MPI) in Wellington is seeking an Adviser Export Assurance for a 12-month secondment to support export systems and regulatory assurance. You will contribute to standards, reviews and cross-stakeholder collaboration across live animal, germplasm and food export programmes.

The role offers development opportunities within MPI's Assurance Directorate and requires strong analytical skills, stakeholder engagement and clear communication.

Responsibilities

• Contribute to the development, implementation and review of export assurance standards and systems.
• Support monitoring, reporting and continuous improvement activities across export assurance programmes.
• Review approvals and provide advice on export assurance requirements and regulatory systems.
• Build strong relationships with internal stakeholders, verification agencies, laboratories and industry representatives.
• Analyse information and contribute to QA, compliance monitoring and reporting.
• Work across live animal and germplasm assurance activities and support export programmes.

About the Role - Kōrero mō te Tūranga

We have an exciting 12-month secondment opportunity for an Adviser Export Assurance within New Zealand Food Safety's Assurance Directorate. This role offers a unique opportunity to develop your understanding of export systems, regulatory frameworks, official assurances, and international market requirements while contributing to work that supports New Zealand's export reputation. Working as part of the Export Assurance team, you'll help ensure New Zealand's food, live animal and germplasm export systems continue to meet regulatory requirements and importing country expectations. You'll collaborate with a wide range of stakeholders across MPI and the wider export system while developing expertise that can be leveraged across many areas of the Ministry. In this varied and rewarding role, you'll:

• Contribute to the development, implementation and review of export assurance standards and systems.
• Support monitoring, reporting and continuous improvement activities across export assurance programmes.
• Review approvals and provide advice relating to export assurance requirements and regulatory systems.
• Build strong working relationships with internal stakeholders, verification agencies, recognised laboratories and industry representatives.
• Analyse information and contribute to quality assurance, compliance monitoring and reporting activities.
• No two days are the same. You'll work across live animal and germplasm assurance activities, alongside opportunities to support food export programmes and broader assurance initiatives.

Ideally, you'll have an understanding of regulatory systems, official assurances, verification or certification processes, or experience working within New Zealand Food Safety.
