Job summary

Bupa Parklands Care Home in Christchurch is seeking an Activities Assistant to support engaging programs for residents. You’ll help plan and deliver individual and group activities, promoting a warm, stimulating environment and strong family communication.

We value enthusiasm, empathy and a creative flair. NZQA Diversional Therapy knowledge is preferred, with a valid NZ driver’s licence and eligibility to work in NZ.

Qualifications

• NZQA Certificate in Diversional Therapy Level preferred.
• Previous experience in aged care desirable.
• Demonstrate outstanding communication skills.
• A fun personality with a creative flair.
• A clean, full driver’s licence is preferable, as you may drive the van for resident outings.
• Applicants must be legally entitled to work in NZ.

• Actively promote a homely, stimulating, and pleasant environment for the residents and their families.

Hours & Roster Details:

• Employment Type: Permanent Part-Time
• Hours: Average 25.6 hours per week
• Shift Time: 10.30am-16.30pm
• Roster Pattern: 4 days on, 2 days off (6-weekly rotating roster across Monday - Sunday)

The purpose of this job

Bupa Parklands Care Home is located on Papanui Road in Strowan, Christchurch, close to the communities of Papanui, Merivale, and St Albans. The home offers rest home, hospital, and specialist dementia (psychogeriatric) care.

As an Activities Assistant, you will:

• Participate and contribute to both individual and group programme activities.
• Contribute to the review and assessment of the residents' individual activities programme.
• Actively promote a homely, stimulating, and pleasant environment for the residents and their families.
• Develop and maintain excellent internal and external communication networks to support the activities programme.

What you’ll need to make it possible

• An NZQA Certificate in Diversional Therapy Level is preferred.
• Previous experience in a similar role within aged care is desirable.
• Display enthusiasm, empathy, and a passion for making a positive impact on the lives of residents.
• Demonstrate outstanding communication skills.
• A fun personality with a creative flair.
• A clean, full driver’s licence is preferable, as you may drive the van for resident outings.
