Bupa Whitby Care Home in Porirua, near Whitby, NZ, is looking for an Activities Assistant to support residents with group and individual activities. You will review activity plans, promote a friendly environment, and collaborate with staff and families to enhance wellbeing.

The role is permanent part-time (average 25 hours/week), with shifts 10am–4pm on a 6-week rotating pattern. NZ work entitlement and a caring, creative approach are essential.

Qualifications

• NZQA Certificate in Diversional Therapy Level preferred.
• Experience in aged care desirable.
• Strong communication and empathy for residents.

Hours & Roster Details:

• Employment Type: Permanent Part-Time
• Hours: Average 25 hours per week or 154 hours over 6 weeks
• Shift Time: 10am – 4pm
• Roster Pattern: 4 days on, 2 days off (6-weekly rotating roster across Monday - Sunday)

The purpose of this job

Located in Whitby, Porirua, close to the Pauatahanui Inlet, Bupa Whitby Care Home offers Rest Home, Hospital, Dementia, and Specialist Dementia (Psychogeriatric) Care.

As an Activities Assistant, you will:

• Participate and contribute to both individual and group programme activities.
• Contribute to the review and assessment of the residents' individual activities programme.
• Actively promote a homely, stimulating, and pleasant environment for the residents and their families.
• Develop and maintain excellent internal and external communication networks to support the activities programme.

What you’ll need to make it possible

• An NZQA Certificate in Diversional Therapy Level is preferred.
• Previous experience in a similar role within aged care is desirable.
• Display enthusiasm, empathy, and a passion for making a positive impact on the lives of residents.
• Demonstrate outstanding communication skills.
• A fun personality with a creative flair.
• A clean, full driver’s licence is preferable, as you may drive the van for resident outings.
• Applicants must be legally entitled to work in NZ.
