Job summary

WM New Zealand is seeking an Accounts Assistant to support the Joint Venture Midwest Disposal Services business, reporting to the Commercial Manager. You will own accounts functions including invoicing, credit control, and month-end processes, working with weighbridge data and multiple systems.

The role requires strong Excel and data analysis skills, excellent time management, and the ability to communicate accounting issues to non-accountants.

Qualifications

• Strong Excel and data analysis skills.
• Ability to collate data from multiple sources and systems.
• Excellent time management and commercial skills.
• Good communication skills both verbal and written.
• Ability to explain accounting issues to non-accountants.
• Team player but capable of working autonomously.
• Knowledge of construction, logistics, or waste industries is an advantage.
• Interest in learning new systems and processes.

Responsibilities

• Review and implement processes and internal controls.
• Ensure timely month-end recording and reporting with standardization improvements.
• Process invoicing using weighbridge data and customer data.
• Handle customer queries, credit control and debt collection as needed.
• Record transactions: PO raising, accounts payable, supplier liaison.
• Process bank transactions and investigations.
• Assist with general office management tasks.
• Support external reporting, audits, and annual tasks for JV Midwest Disposal Services.
• Support Operations, Commercial and Finance Managers.
• Collaborate in a two-person team with cross-functional learning.
