Job summary

Hertz is seeking a results‑driven Account Manager based in Auckland to drive strategic growth across government, corporate, mining, and travel accounts. You will focus on long-term partnerships, maximizing value, and profitable revenue within your territory while driving new business opportunities.

Key duties include maintaining senior stakeholder relationships, developing tenders, and presenting competitive proposals. The role supports a hybrid work model with travel as needed.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 2 years' experience in account management or business development.
  • Proven ability to grow existing accounts and identify new opportunities.
  • Strong relationship-building and stakeholder management.
  • Experience using Salesforce or similar CRM systems.
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills.
  • Willingness to travel several times per year.

About the Role?

Based in our Head Office, the Account Manager is responsible for the strategic growth, account management and retention of a portfolio of major government, corporate, mining and corporate travel accounts for the Hertz brand. The role focuses on the development of long-term partnerships with a key focus on growth through maximising the value of relationships via incremental sales, increased share, customer satisfaction and profitable revenue within a geographical area. There is also a focus on driving profitable new business growth.

Key responsibilities include:
  • Maintain and strengthen relationships with key customers, stakeholders and decision-makers within an assigned territory to drive customer retention, growth and profitability.
  • Identify, develop and secure profitable new business opportunities through market research, networking, lead generation and proactive business development activities.
  • Lead tender opportunities within the assigned territory by coordinating professional and competitive responses using a solution-focused sales approach.
  • Develop and present competitive rate proposals, contract solutions and account strategies, utilising strong negotiation skills to achieve favourable commercial outcomes.
  • Analyse customer activity, market trends, competitor performance and emerging market opportunities to identify growth initiatives and increase market share.
  • Meet or exceed sales objectives across assigned market segments and ancillary products, ensuring a positive return on investment for the organisation.
  • Develop annual business plans and account strategies, effectively managing resources to achieve targeted business outcomes.
  • Champion continuous improvement by identifying process efficiencies and recommending solutions that enhance customer experience and business performance.
About You?

To be successful in this position, our newest team member will ideally have the following:

  • Minimum 2 years' experience in account management, business development, the travel industry, or a complex customer-focused environment, with a proven ability to grow existing accounts and identify new business opportunities.
  • Strong relationship-building and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence and engage decision-makers at all levels while balancing customer expectations with business objectives.
  • Demonstrated experience in sales, strategic account development, tender submissions, contract negotiations, and delivering commercial outcomes.
  • Highly developed analytical and financial acumen, with the ability to interpret customer, market and financial data to identify trends, opportunities and risks.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication, presentation and networking skills, with a strong customer service orientation and attention to detail.
  • Experience using Salesforce or similar CRM systems to manage customer relationships, sales activity, reporting and contract implementation processes.
  • Strong problem-solving, organisational and strategic thinking skills, with the ability to work independently, manage competing priorities and drive continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Results-driven, resilient and adaptable, with a collaborative approach, high level of integrity, and a commitment to achieving business goals while fostering positive working relationships.
  • Ability to travel several times per year within the assigned territory, and occasionally elsewhere interstate if required
