Job summary

Wintec is seeking a passionate Recreation and Fitness Studies Teacher to deliver Sports Leadership, Exercise Science and Outdoor Education modules at the Rotokauri Campus. The role focuses on akonga-first teaching, blended learning, and strong community ties within the Waikato region.

You will hold a Certificate in Adult Teaching or NZCATT (or equivalent), plus a relevant tertiary qualification, and have experience with Moodle or Blackboard. A driver’s license is required.

Recreation and Fitness Studies Teacher, Postsecondary

We are seeking a passionate and akonga-focused educator who is committed to creating an engaging, inclusive, and supportive learning environment that enables learners to achieve their full potential. This role involves delivering high-quality teaching using innovative and blended learning approaches, developing and maintaining current curriculum and assessment resources, and fostering strong relationships with akonga, tutors, industry, and the wider community. The successful candidate will demonstrate a commitment to continuous professional development, educational excellence, and culturally responsive teaching, while contributing positively to a collaborative teaching team through course development, research, quality assurance, academic administration, and the ongoing enhancement of teaching and learning practices.

The appointing salary for this role will be between $77500.00 and $96800.00, depending on skills and experience.

This Academic Staff Member role is based at our Centre of Sports Science and Human Performance on the Rotokauri Campus and reports to the Team Manager. The role will be responsible for:

  • Delivery of Sports Leadership, Exercise Science and Outdoor Education modules to the Waikato Trades Academy
  • Delivery of Outdoor Education and Te Hihiri modules to the Bachelor of Sports Science Degree programme.
  • Other duties as directed, including but not limited to relief cover
To be successful in this role, you will have:
  • Certificate in Adult Teaching, NZCATT or equivalent
  • Tertiary qualification one level above the level required to teach
  • Full Driver's License.
  • Experience with learning technologies e.g. Moodle, Blackboard
  • Strong interpersonal and relationship skills and a demonstrated ability to work with colleagues to resolve issues and meet agreed outcomes
  • Ability to use initiative, be innovative, to question the status quo and to adapt to changing circumstances
In addition, preferably you will also have NZOIA or equivalent experience:
  • Bush 1 (River Crossing and Kaitiakitanga),
  • Rock 1 (Rock Climbing Units
  • MTB 1 (MTB Units)
  • Canoe/Kayak 1 (Canoe Unit)

A background in strength and conditioning, including exercise prescription, coaching and facilitating sessions, is also desirable.
