Job summary

Northpower is seeking an experienced Cable Jointer to join the Contracting division in New Zealand. This hands-on role involves installing, maintaining and repairing underground networks up to 33kV, working across diverse sites to keep communities powered.

You will join a skilled team focused on delivering critical projects safely and to high quality standards, with opportunities to develop expertise and advance within the organisation.

Qualifications

• NZ Electrical Registration (EWRB) and a current practising licence.
• Full Class 2 New Zealand Driver Licence.
• Preferred two years post‑qualification cable jointing experience.
• Experience working on underground distribution networks (400V, 11kV & 22kV).
• Strong fault-finding and problem‑solving skills.
• Excellent attention to detail and quality workmanship.
• Proactive, safety‑focused mindset and good communication.

Responsibilities

• Install, replace, and repair underground distribution assets.
• Carry out cable jointing and terminations up to 33kV.
• Operate electrical equipment and assist with excavation and site reinstatement.
• Diagnose faults and solve technical issues in the field.
• Maintain tools, equipment, and PPE to a high standard.
• Ensure all work is completed safely and in compliance with industry standards.
• Build strong relationships with customers, clients, and team members.
• Participate in the after-hours standby roster.
