Job summary

Pinehill Butchery Limited in Manawatū-Whanganui is seeking a capable 2IC to support the hands-on manager in a busy shop that makes sausages, bacon, hams, small goods and biltong, with on-site meat processing.

You will lead a small team, help maintain production and shop flow, and contribute to maximizing trading potential while staying fit for a physically demanding role.

Qualifications

• Qualified butcher competent at full carcass breakdown.
• Team player able to manage team confidently.
• Self-motivated and capable of self-managing time and tasks efficiently.
• Knowledge of GP.
• Previous experience making small goods (advantage).
• NZ citizen or NZ resident with current visa and currently in NZ.
• Fit and able to lift heavy weights within reason.

Responsibilities

• Full carcass break down with reasonable speed and minimal waste.
• Produce tidy, premium cuts with a good eye for detail for presentation.
• Manage team confidently.
• Manage the store when necessary to ensure production and shop run smoothly.
• Anticipate the needs of the shop to maximize trading potential.
• Support the hands‑on manager.

A 2IC position to join a small busy shop that makes everything in-house including sausages, bacon, hams, small goods and biltong to their own recipes, along with breaking down bodies of beef, lamb, and pork. The role also involves processing home-kill and recreational catch onsite. As the job is physically demanding, you will need to be fit and able to lift heavy weights within reason. This position requires someone who is self-motivated and reliable to be a key support person to the hands‑on manager and be able to look ahead to anticipate the needs of the shop to maximize trading potential, along with the ability to manage the team and the store when necessary to ensure both production and the shop run smoothly.

Salary dependent on experience.
