Errigal, a leading construction firm, seeks a Technical Design Manager to coordinate design information across design offices, site teams and consultants on large-scale projects. You will ensure practical, buildable solutions while upholding safety and standards.

You will lead design release schedules, integrate programmes, and mentor the design team, driving buildability improvements and value engineering where appropriate.

Qualifications

  • Proven experience in Design Management within a construction design office with experience of Data Centres.
  • Proven experience supervising design teams and managing project delivery.
  • Strong understanding of design coordination, project management, and multidisciplinary integration.

Responsibilities

  • Act as the central interface between Design, Site, and Operations teams, ensuring alignment across all project stakeholders.
  • Manage the project design release information schedule, ensuring timely issuance of coordinated design packages.
  • Integrate design programming with overall project timelines and coordinate inputs from consultants, subcontractors, and internal teams.
  • Conduct QA reviews of drawings for compliance with policies and project requirements.
  • Maintain knowledge of relevant standards, building regulations, and BC(A)R requirements.

About the Role

The Technical Design Manager acts as the principal link between the Site team, Design office, technical advisors, consultants, and construction teams. Working closely with the Head of Design and Lead Designers, this role ensures the successful coordination, development, and delivery of design information across multiple medium and large-scale projects.

The role is responsible for ensuring that practical, buildable, and compliant design solutions are developed, reviewed, and implemented, supporting both the design and construction phases while maintaining quality, safety, and regulatory standards.

Key Responsibilities
Design Coordination & Management
  • Act as the central interface between Design, Site, and Operations teams, ensuring alignment across all project stakeholders.
  • Manage the project design release information schedule, ensuring timely issuance of coordinated design packages.
  • Integrate and align design programming with overall project timelines.
  • Coordinate design inputs from consultants, subcontractors, and internal teams to ensure consistency and completeness.
  • Manage the coordination, procurement, and commissioning of design packages.
Design Review & Quality Assurance
  • Conduct QA reviews of all drawings prior to approval and external release to ensure:
  • Compliance with company design policies
  • Alignment with project requirements
  • Practical and buildable solutions
  • Identify and highlight complex system interfaces early in the design process requiring further coordination and resolution.
  • Ensure design change management processes are followed and that the Design Change Register is kept up to date.
Technical & Compliance Oversight
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of:
  • British and European Standards
  • Building Regulations
  • Industry systems and innovations
  • Ensure specification and legislative compliance, including BC(A)R requirements.
  • Liaise with statutory authorities to secure approvals and maintain compliance.
  • Oversee approvals, samples, mock-ups, and off-site inspections, including fire testing and performance requirements.
Site & Construction Support
  • Provide technical support to Operations and Site teams, ensuring clarity for installation processes.
  • Conduct site visits and produce site reports reviewing installation works against approved design documents.
  • Ensure effective communication of design intent to site teams to reduce errors and rework.
  • Support Lean Construction principles by driving:
  • Buildability improvements
  • Value engineering opportunities
Interface & Package Management
  • Manage and resolve interface issues between systems and packages to achieve desired quality and tolerances.
  • Oversee coordination between building services, architectural, and structural systems.
  • Ensure effective information flow across all disciplines.
Reporting & Leadership
  • Report weekly to the Head of Design, highlighting project performance and risks.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to design team members to enhance capability and experience.
  • Support continuous improvement in design processes and team performance.

Essential Criteria
  • Proven experience in Design Management within a construction design office with experience of Data Centres.
  • Proven experience supervising design teams and managing project delivery.
  • Strong understanding of design coordination, project management, and multidisciplinary integration.
  • Bachelor’s Degree (BSc) or higher in:
  • Engineering
  • Building Services
  • Architectural Design
  • Or equivalent discipline
  • Proven track record in building services and industry standards.
  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD and experience within the built environment.
