Job description
Overview

Are you interested in joining the prestigious DNV Summer Project summer 2026? Apply now!

Since 2008, DNV has hosted the DNV Summer Project, inviting students with different academic backgrounds to solve a highly relevant topic for the industry. The topic for 2026 is related to: "Supporting Biodiversity in the Ocean Space".

Objective: Creating nature-positive impacts

Scope: How can DNV support the development of methods and tools that enable measurable, nature-positive outcomes in marine environments?

DNV invites 8 students to join us in developing innovative solutions that integrate biodiversity into project planning and operations. You will be part of a multidisciplinary team exploring how ecological insights can shape sustainable business strategies and real-world decisions.

You will investigate market trends and regulatory developments, analyze how industries like offshore wind and aquaculture can adapt, and identify opportunities for nature-positive innovation. By building business cases for biodiversity-enhancing interventions—such as seaweed farming or marine habitat restoration—you’ll help quantify potential ecological and economic benefits. Engaging with potential customers and stakeholders will be key to understanding their needs and exploring collaboration opportunities.

You will have the opportunity to connect with DNV’s experts in marine ecology, maritime operations, engineering, and data science, combining technical knowledge with environmental insight to co-create solutions that are both scientifically sound and commercially viable.

Example project ideas
  • AI-Driven Mapping: Develop a system to locate vulnerable and valuable marine habitats using satellite data and machine learning.
  • Valuation Tool: Create a method or software to quantify the ecological and economic value of marine ecosystems.
  • Scenario Modeling: Build models to predict biodiversity outcomes of planned interventions, helping stakeholders make informed decisions.

Joining the Summer Project of 2026 gives you the chance to contribute to global sustainability goals while gaining hands-on experience in environmental consulting, technology development, and stakeholder engagement. Your work could help shape the tools and strategies that guide industries toward a nature-positive future.

Reversing global nature loss by 2030 is no longer just an ambition—it’s a necessity. With the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework signed by nearly 200 countries in 2022, and the Paris Agreement driving climate action, the world could move toward a climate-neutral, nature-positive, and resilient future. But to get there, we need bold ideas, practical tools, and fresh perspectives. Are you the one we’re looking for?

The team will start on 17 June 2026 and work together at Høvik for six weeks. A short break is planned from 9–15 July, and the last day of the project is Wednesday 5 August.
