Job summary

NATO Joint Warfare Centre in Stavanger, Norway, seeks a Staff Officer (Industrial Security) to join the Security Section. You will implement NATO security policies to protect information handled by industry in contracts, coordinating with NSAs and HQ to safeguard classified data.

The ideal candidate has extensive experience in industrial security, contracts management, and security policy development, and excellent communication for a multinational environment.

Qualifications

  • University Degree in security administration, criminology, public administration, industrial security administration, law, contract management, procurement, accounting or related discipline
  • Or Higher Secondary education with vocational training leading to professional qualification or accreditation

Responsibilities

  • Apply protective measures to prevent loss or compromise of classified information handled by industry in contracts.
  • Verify access suitability for NATO Classified Information with non-NATO entities.
  • Serve as conduit between JWC Security Office, industry, and NSAs for security requirements.
  • Ensure industry partners have appropriate NATO clearance and NAC approval to share NCI.
  • Lead development of Classified Project and Industrial Security procedures with NATO and NSAs.
  • Support NATO Personnel Security policy and escalating risks per Instructions.
  • Maintain a personnel security database for industry partners with access to NCI.
  • Assist JWC Security Office with admin tasks across security domains and during exercises.
  • Investigate minor security breaches per procedures.
  • Assist users in defining access rights and privileges.
  • Perform non-standard security administration tasks and resolve issues.

Job Title: Staff Officer (Industrial Security)
Description

The Joint Warfare Centre (JWC) is seeking an Industrial Security professional to join its Security Section within the Support Directorate. The role supports the implementation of NATO security policies and procedures, with a focus on protecting NATO classified information handled by industry in the context of contracts. The position contributes to ensuring that classified information generated, shared, or managed under industrial contracts is safeguarded in accordance with NATO Security Policy and supporting directives.

Duties
  • To ensure the application of protective measures and procedures to prevent, detect and recover the loss of compromise of classified information handled by industry in contracts.
  • To ensure that before a facility, contractor, industry partner or other non-NATO entity can have access to NATO Classified Information (NCI), that they have been correctly checked for the ability to protect and use NCI in an appropriate manner to ensure its integrity.
  • To be the conduit between the JWC Security Office, industry partners, and all applicable National Security Authorities (NSAs), facilitating personnel and project security requirements.
  • To provide assurance that all Industry Partners possess the appropriate NATO security clearance level and have been approved by the North Atlantic Council (NAC) to share and receive NCI.
  • To Lead the management and development of Classified Project and Industrial Security procedures, involving engagement with NATO HQ, NSAs, JWC Project Officers and key stakeholders.
  • To ensure the application of NATO Personnel Security policy, supporting directives, and instructions, elevating risks and issues in accordance with JWC Operating Instructions and Procedures.
  • To manage and maintain a personnel security database for all industry partners who are granted access to NCI and NATO Class II security areas by the JWC.
  • To assist the JWC Security Office with general administrative tasks related to all security domains and support security operations related to exercises and events hosted at the JWC.
  • Investigates minor security breaches in accordance with established procedures.
  • Assists users in defining their access rights and privileges.
  • Performs non-standard security administration tasks and resolves security administration issues.
Qualifications
Education/Training
  • University Degree in security administration, criminology, public administration, industrial security administration, law, contract management, procurement, accounting or related discipline,
  • or Higher Secondary education and completed advanced vocational training in that discipline leading to a professional qualification or professional accreditation
Professional Experience
  • 4 years of experience in Industrial security and classified contracts management
  • 4 years of experience in business or office administration
  • 2 years of experience in security policy development
  • 2 years of experience in the management of classified information
Language

English – Upper Intermediate/Advanced

Desirable Qualifications
  • Knowledge of NATO security policies, procedures and contributing organizations
  • Experience with the application of security to in all disciplines (Personnel, Physical, Security of Information, and CIS)
  • Experience with the conduct of security audits and compliance audits
  • Experience with the development of curriculum and execution of educational activities and trainings
Personal Attributes/Competencies

The ideal candidate will demonstrate professional communication skills, with the ability to clearly and diplomatically convey complex security information. They must be capable of working effectively with personnel of all ranks, roles, and statuses across a multinational environment. Integrity, discretion, and sound judgement are required in handling sensitive or classified information. The candidate should also exhibit adaptability and resilience when responding to evolving security challenges while maintaining NATO standards and fostering trust among stakeholders.

Work Environment

The work is normally performed in an office environment.

NOTE: The work both oral and written in this post and in this headquarters as a whole is conducted mainly in English.

T ravel on temporary duty may be required for several conferences.

Irregular working hours may be required, especially during exercises/events.

Contract

The successful applicant will be offered a three-year definite duration employment contract after which a further contract may be offered. Serving staff will be offered a contract in accordance with the NATO Civilian Personnel Regulations.

Salary
