Job summary

Videospan Labs in Norway is seeking a Senior Video Engineer to own the core video processing infrastructure powering thousands of automated video creations daily. You will design, build, and optimize encoding, packaging, and rendering systems for scalable video production.

You will architect high-performance rendering pipelines with FFmpeg, Rust and C++, implement HLS/DASH packaging, and push GPU acceleration using CUDA, Vulkan, or similar to maximize quality and throughput.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of software engineering focusing on video technology.
• Strong knowledge of video codecs and streaming protocols.
• Proficiency in systems programming languages (Rust, C++, or Go).
• Experience optimizing video workloads on GPU hardware.
• Experience with cloud-based video processing (AWS or similar).

Responsibilities

• Architect and optimize high-performance video rendering pipelines using FFmpeg, Rust, and/or C++.
• Build encoding workflows balancing quality, size and speed for H.264, HEVC, VP9, AV1.
• Implement streaming packaging for HLS and DASH with adaptive bitrate ladders.

Videospan is looking for a Senior Video Engineer to own the core video processing infrastructure that powers thousands of automated video creations daily. As our first dedicated video infrastructure hire in a late-stage seed / early Series A environment, you will design, build, and optimize the encoding, packaging, and rendering systems that make scalable video production possible.

What you'll do

• Architect and optimize high-performance video rendering pipelines using FFmpeg, Rust, and/or C++.
• Build encoding workflows that balance quality, file size, and speed across H.264, HEVC, VP9, and AV1.
• Implement streaming packaging for HLS and DASH, including adaptive bitrate ladders and delivery optimization.
• Drive GPU hardware acceleration for rendering and transcoding (CUDA, Vulkan, Metal, or similar).
• Scale our serverless and container-based rendering infrastructure to handle massive concurrent loads cost-effectively.
• Collaborate with product and AI teams to enable new creative capabilities through deep video engineering.

Requirements

• 5+ years of experience in software engineering with a focus on video technology.
• Deep knowledge of FFmpeg, video codecs (H.264, HEVC, VP9, AV1), container formats, and streaming protocols (HLS, DASH).
• Proficiency in systems programming languages like Rust, C++, or Go.
• Experience optimizing video workloads on GPU hardware.
• Experience with cloud infrastructure (AWS Lambda, ECS, EKS, or similar) for video processing.
• Ability to own complex systems end-to-end and make pragmatic architectural decisions in a fast-moving startup.
