Job summary

Vespa.ai, a company behind the Vespa open-source AI search platform, seeks a senior Java engineer to strengthen Vespa Core. You will contribute to the jdisc container, runtime, and APIs, and collaborate across teams including C++ engines and Vespa Cloud.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of professional Java development experience.
• Deep knowledge of Java, JVM, concurrency and memory management.
• Experience with high-performance server-side systems.
• Understanding of HTTP/2, TLS and gRPC.
• Knowledge of distributed systems concepts.
• Solid software engineering practices and problem-solving.
• Fluent written and spoken English.

Responsibilities

• Design, implement and maintain Java components in Vespa core.
• Improve performance and robustness of the container runtime.
• Develop and evolve APIs, configuration model and framework.
• Collaborate with C++ engine and Vespa Cloud teams.
• Review code, write tests and engage with open-source community.
• Investigate and resolve complex production issues.
