Job description

We are seeking an experienced Senior Data Architect to lead the design and governance of a trusted, scalable, and AI-ready data ecosystem supporting Safety and Sustainability initiatives.

This strategic leadership role is focused on building enterprise-wide data foundations that enable AI adoption while ensuring strong governance, quality, security, and compliance. The successful candidate will define and drive a Data Readiness for AI Framework, establishing measurable standards for data quality, metadata, semantics, lineage, governance, and AI trustworthiness.

Key Responsibilities

Enterprise Data Strategy & Architecture

• Design secure, scalable, and cost-efficient enterprise data ecosystems supporting operational, analytical, and AI workloads.
• Define target-state architecture, reference models, reusable patterns, and conceptual, logical, and physical data models.
• Architect cloud-native data lakes, lakehouses, data mesh environments, streaming platforms, and metadata management capabilities.
• Align architecture strategy with business goals and future digital transformation initiatives.

AI Readiness & AI-Driven Data Foundations

• Develop AI-ready data architectures leveraging metadata, semantic models, knowledge graphs, lineage, and governance frameworks.
• Enable advanced AI capabilities including Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG), vector databases, semantic search, and grounded AI.
• Drive AI-powered approaches for metadata enrichment, schema mapping, data classification, lineage generation, master data harmonization, and quality improvement.
• Ensure explainability, auditability, provenance, and responsible AI practices throughout the data ecosystem.

Safety & Sustainability Data Architecture

• Architect solutions that unify HSE, ESG, Process Safety, Asset Integrity, Environmental, Operational, and Compliance data domains.
• Integrate IT, OT, engineering, sensor, maintenance, and environmental systems through a common information model.
• Enable trusted real-time and near-real-time reporting while preserving critical business context, lineage, and data provenance.

Data Governance & Compliance

• Establish enterprise data governance frameworks covering ownership, stewardship, quality, retention, privacy, security, and regulatory compliance.
• Implement metadata management, business glossaries, lineage, data catalogs, and governance standards.
• Translate legal, risk, cybersecurity, sustainability, and HSE requirements into enforceable data controls.
• Design enterprise integration frameworks across ERP, EAM, CMMS, GIS, IoT, ESG, Safety, Engineering, and external regulatory systems.
• Define API-driven, event-based, streaming, batch, and federated integration patterns.
• Establish canonical data models and semantic mappings across business-critical entities.

Data Products & Data Mesh Leadership

• Define ownership, contracts, service levels, discoverability, and governance standards for enterprise data products.
• Enable self-service analytics and AI innovation through governed and reusable data products.
• Establish fitness-for-purpose standards related to quality, security, lineage, metadata, support, and lifecycle management.

Security & Risk Management

• Apply security-by-design principles, including encryption, masking, tokenization, role-based access controls, and zero-trust architecture.
• Collaborate with cybersecurity and risk teams to ensure protection of operational, environmental, workforce, and regulatory data.
• Assess architectural risks and enforce compliance controls for data and AI-enabled solutions.

Required Experience

Domain Expertise

• 10+ years of experience in Enterprise Data Architecture, Data Platforms, Integration, Data Governance, and Analytics.
• Minimum 5 years of experience in Oil & Gas, Energy, Utilities, Mining, Chemicals, or similar safety-critical industries.
