Job summary

Aviant, a leading European drone technology pioneer, is seeking a Robotics Engineer to join the Ski, Norway team. You will work on autonomous, last-mile delivery drones, integrating sensors, developing flight software, and improving flight performance in real-world environments.

The role emphasizes hands-on hardware and software development, fault analysis, and end-to-end certification processes, with opportunities to shape the next generation of delivery drones at Aviant.

Qualifications

  • Experience with autopilots, control, electronics, networking, and avionics.
  • Strong embedded systems skills and hands-on hardware experience.
  • Ability to analyze flight logs to identify root causes and perform fault analyses.

Responsibilities

  • Integrate and test sensors on the drone.
  • Develop new concepts for the drone, like faster winching.
  • Develop software in the flight controller and onboard computer to solve missions.
  • Analyze flight logs when something goes wrong to find the root cause.
  • Do fault analysis according specifications.
  • Handle certification workflows end-to-end from requirements to proof.

Job description

Aviant does home delivery with drones. We fly at 100 km/h to people's gardens and deliver food and medicine. After starting in the labs at MIT in 2020, we have performed over 8,000 flights, covered tens of thousands of kilometers, completed more than 30 contracts and managed to take a leading position in the European drone market. We just launched Europes largest base for autonomous last-mile delivery with drones at Ski. This will be a major event in European transportation, and we are now looking for a lead technician to be responsible for our workshop, maintenance and manufacturing.

As a Robotics Engineer, you will:
  • Integrate and test sensors on the drone
  • Develop new concepts for the drone, like faster winching
  • Develop software in the flight controller and onboard computer to solve various missions
  • Analyze flight logs when something goes wrong to find the root cause
  • Do fault analysis according spesifications
  • Handle certification worklfows end-to-end from requirements to proof
Relevant technology:
  • Autopilot: PX4 fork on NuttX (realtime embedded C++)
  • Onboard software: python, gstreamer on Debian
  • Communication: UART, I2C, CAN, USB, PWM, NMEA
  • Control: GNSS denied navigation, PID controllers, RTK, BLDC
  • Electronics: COTS electronics, BMS, PCB design
  • Networking: openvpn, MAVLink
  • Avionics: CubeOrange, Raspberry Pi, uBlox F9P, ICM20948, Camera
