OsloMet – Oslo Metropolitan University is seeking a Research Assistant for the ERC-funded CAMELOT project. The role supports theoretical and experimental work on long-term climate governance, with tasks spanning literature synthesis, memo creation, and preparation of publications.

Research Assistant – CAMELOT: Long-term Climate Governance

OsloMet's vision is to deliver knowledge to solve societal challenges. Norway's most urban and 3rd largest university.

A 50% Research Assistant position for six months is available in the ERC-funded research project CAMELOT – Capacities for More Effective Long-term Climate Governance, based at Oslo Business School, Oslo Metropolitan University (OsloMet).The research assistant will be based in the academic unit Public Administration and Governance at Oslo Business School.

About CAMELOT

Many of today's most consequential governance challenges, including climate change and Earth system risks, unfold over decades, centuries, or longer. Yet political institutions and decision-making processes often struggle to engage effectively with such long-term futures.

CAMELOT investigates the capacities that enable individuals, groups, and institutions to think about and govern for the long term. The project develops new theory on long-term governance capacities and studies how such capacities can be strengthened through experimental and participatory research. It brings together insights from political science, public administration, environmental governance, sustainability science, futures studies, psychology, and related fields.

CAMELOT is a five-year research project funded by a European Research Council (ERC) Consolidator Grant and led by associate professor Manjana Milkoreit at OsloMet.

About the position

The Research Assistant will support research within CAMELOT, particularly theoretical and conceptual work on long-term governance capacities (WP1) and the development of experimental research on long-term climate governance (WP2).

Key tasks will include:

• identifying, collecting, organizing, and synthesizing relevant academic literature across several fields
• conducting targeted background research and preparing research summaries and short research memos to support the development of academic publications
• supporting manuscript preparation, including reference management, citation checking, formatting, and preparation of supplementary materials
• supporting the development of experimental treatments through literature reviews, background research, and preparation of research and design meetings
• researching potential partners, research sites, and other resources relevant to the development and implementation of CAMELOT's experimental work

Qualification requirements

Applicants should have:

• a Master's degree, or be close to completing a master's degree, in political science, public administration, environmental governance, sustainability science, environmental social science, or another field relevant to CAMELOT
• strong skills in finding, evaluating, and synthesizing academic literature
• strong analytical and academic writing skills
• excellent written and spoken English
• the ability to work carefully, independently, and systematically while contributing to a collaborative research environment

It is an advantage, but not a requirement, to have experience or demonstrated interest in one or more areas relevant to CAMELOT, such as climate or environmental governance, anticipatory governance, futures studies, political psychology, or experimental social science. Experience with reference-management software and other tools for organizing and synthesizing research literature is also an advantage.

We are looking for an intellectually curious and reliable colleague who is comfortable engaging with research across disciplinary boundaries and learning new areas of scholarship.

The position offers an opportunity to gain hands‑on experience with the development of an ambitious international research project and to work closely with the Principal Investigator and other members of the CAMELOT research team. The Research Assistant will gain experience in advanced literature research and synthesis, conceptual and theoretical research, academic publishing, and the development of experimental social science research.

The position provides exposure to different stages of the research process, from developing ideas and reviewing evidence to designing studies and preparing publications. It may be particularly valuable for someone considering a PhD or another research-oriented career and seeking to strengthen their academic research skills, substantive expertise, and experience of collaborative research.

The salary for the position is in accordance with the Basic Collective Agreement for state employees and OsloMets pay policy for Research Assistantin code 1020, corresponding to 527 000 NOK per year in a 100 % position. A higher salary may be considered for particularly well-qualified applicants. From the salary, 2% will be deducted in pension contributions for the Norwegian Public Service Pension Fund (SPK).
