Job description

Power electronics developer wanted in Kongsberg!

Manpower is looking for a skilled Power Electronics Developer on behalf of one of our clients in Kongsberg. This is a position within an innovative and multidisciplinary R&D environment, offering a unique opportunity to work with cutting-edge technology in the fields of electrification and renewable energy.

Job Purpose:

The Controls & Automation product line is developing technology platforms for the electrification of Subsea Control Systems and enabling renewable energy sources such as offshore wind, hydrogen, and wave power.

The Electronics R&D team works with a wide range of technologies, including analogue electronics, FPGA, SoC, power design, safety design, motor controllers, processor design, and power line modems — all used in advanced control system applications.

In this role, you will contribute to the design, development, qualification, system integration, and production of new products from early-phase development through to commissioning and field operation. You will be part of a multidisciplinary team working closely across hardware, software, systems, testing, mechatronics, and production engineering.

We are now seeking Senior Power Electronics Developers with expertise in motor control and battery management systems to join the Hardware development team.

We are looking for candidates with experience in several of the following areas:
  • Analog electronics, including discrete design using OpAmps, transistors, inductors, transformers, and capacitors for high-voltage applications
  • Selection and use of high-voltage power semiconductors (IGBTs, MOSFETs, diodes), gate drives, and analog/digital measurement circuits
  • Power electronics topologies for AC or DC applications such as motor controllers, battery management systems, power supplies, and switches
  • Schematic design and PCB layout with ECAD tools like Altium Designer (or equivalent)
  • Understanding of motor drive and battery control principles, component performance, and loss mechanisms
  • Use of lab instruments such as oscilloscopes, network analyzers, signal generators, programmable loads, and motor/battery simulators
  • PCB layout with focus on minimizing parasitics and ensuring manufacturability and EMC compliance
  • Knowledge of embedded programming and control algorithms to verify circuit designs
  • Design experience with a focus on DFX (design for manufacturability and testability)

Key Responsibilities:

  • Define hardware requirements in collaboration with system, drivetrain, and battery management architects
  • Design and develop motor drive and battery management circuits, from component selection and schematic design to PCB layout and prototyping
  • Conduct functional testing and verification of circuits, PCBAs, and actuators
  • Work closely with systems, mechanical, software, layout, and production teams to develop complete solutions
  • Prepare test procedures and write reports on functional, environmental, and system testing

We are looking for someone who has:

  • BSc, MSc, or PhD in electronics, automation, cybernetics, or a related field
  • 3–5 years of relevant industrial experience in power electronics design and development
  • A structured and analytical approach to solving complex problems
  • Good communication skills in English and the ability to work in a multicultural environment
  • A proactive and solution-oriented mindset — and ideally a passion for electronics
