Job summary

Mercury is seeking a Project Planner to develop and maintain schedules for pre-construction, construction and commissioning, and to provide progress reporting. You will liaise with the project team and subcontractors to ensure data accuracy and support weekly lookahead processes.

A qualification in construction management and strong Excel skills are essential. Willingness to learn Primavera P6 under senior guidance and a keen eye for detail are important in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

  • Third-level qualification in construction management, engineering, quantity surveying, project management, planning, data analytics, or related discipline.
  • Clear understanding of construction project delivery and how planning supports each phase.
  • Willingness to learn Primavera P6 under senior guidance.
  • Strong Microsoft Excel skills for data management and reporting.
  • Strong attention to detail and clear communication within project teams.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain schedules for pre-construction, construction, and commissioning.
  • Develop and maintain progress databases and reporting.
  • Prepare schedule-related deliverables and lookahead inputs.
  • Monitor schedule performance and productivity.
  • Audit progress on site and liaise with client and subcontractors.
  • Support weekly workface planning and lookahead reporting cycles.
  • Assist in claims preparation and documentation for disputes.

Key Responsibilities of the Role:
  • Reporting to Project Planner/ Planning Department
  • Reporting to Project Management
  • Developing and maintaining schedules for pre-construction/ construction/ commissioning
  • Developing and maintaining progress databases
  • Progress reporting
  • Milestone projections, delay/ float path analysis
  • Earned Value Management systems
  • Monitoring schedule performance (PE) and productivity (SE)
  • Auditing progress on site
  • Attending schedule meetings, liaising with client and subcontractors
  • Preparation of tender schedules
  • Preparation of histograms
  • Supporting weekly workface planning systems
  • Resource / cash loading of schedules
  • Providing data for payment applications
  • Responsibility for quality and accuracy of schedules and reports
  • Making relevant parties aware of issues and advising on solutions
  • Recording delay and disruption
  • Assisting in the preparation of claims and providing data for contractual disputes
  • Covering Project Planner responsibilities when required
  • All other duties associated with role
Essential Criteria for the Role:
  • Relevant third-level qualification in construction management, engineering, quantity surveying, project management, planning, data analytics, or a related discipline, with a clear interest in project planning and controls
  • Foundational understanding of construction project delivery, including design, procurement, construction, commissioning, handover, and close-out, and how planning supports each phase.
  • Basic knowledge of planning principles, including sequencing, dependencies, milestones, critical activities, progress measurement, reporting cycles, and accurate programme data.
  • Willingness to learn Primavera P6, including programme navigation, activity updates, lookahead schedules, progress inputs, coding structures, filters, and basic reporting outputs under senior guidance.
  • Good Microsoft Excel skills, with the ability to manage data accurately, maintain trackers, organise progress information, support basic analysis, and present information clearly.
  • Ability to help collect and validate progress information from site teams, subcontractors, procurement schedules, drawings, scopes of work and construction documentation to support programme updates.
  • Strong attention to detail, with the ability to check information for accuracy, identify gaps or inconsistencies, and elevate queries where clarification is needed.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the confidence to engage professionally and collaboratively with project teams, site personnel, subcontractors, and support functions.
  • Ability to support lookahead reports, progress trackers, milestone updates, meeting notes, action logs, and planning inputs for weekly or monthly reporting cycles.
  • Positive approach to learning, development, and feedback, with the ability to apply guidance, build technical planning knowledge, and grow confidence in a fast-paced project environment.
  • Strong organisation, reliability, and ownership of assigned tasks, with the ability to manage priorities, meet deadlines, and contribute positively to the wider planning and project delivery team.
