The University of Agder (UiA) invites applications for a 100% PhD Research Fellow in Power Quality Assessment and Planning of Distribution and Transmission Grids. The position is based at Campus Grimstad for three years and is funded under the national FME SOLAR centre.

The research will address power quality monitoring, hosting capacity for PV, EMT simulations, and digital twins, with collaboration across the SOLAR consortium. English proficiency is required; Norwegian knowledge is helpful.

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Renewable Energy, or related field.
  • Experience with scientific programming and data analysis using MATLAB and/or Python.
  • Good written and spoken English; NOKUT English proficiency if applicable.
  • Experience with power quality analysis, EMT simulations, or event-based power system studies.
  • Knowledge of Norwegian or another Scandinavian language.

Responsibilities

  • Develop digital twins for pilot distribution (LV/MV) and transmission (HV) grids with high PV penetration.
  • Develop an event-based power quality assessment framework, including a PQ toolbox based on EMT simulations.
  • Evaluate grid control strategies for increasing PV hosting capacity, including active/reactive power control, voltage management, and energy storage.
  • The research will be validated through scaled hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) laboratory experiments. Collaboration within the FME SOLAR consortium is integral.
