Job summary

UiT The Arctic University of Norway in Narvik invites applications for a PhD Fellow in AI‑Automated Voltage Control for Future Distribution Networks. The three‑year position aims to complete doctoral training; admission to the PhD programme is required and begins with the appointment.

The project targets AI-based, automated voltage control for dynamic distribution grids, using ML/RL, hierarchical designs, offline simulations, and hardware-in-the-loop testing.

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree or equivalent in Electrical Engineering or related field.
  • English fluency and ability to work in an international environment.
  • Norwegian or a Scandinavian language is beneficial.
  • Desirable: knowledge of MATLAB/Simulink, PowerFactory, OpenDSS, Python, ML, RL.

Responsibilities

  • Develop AI-based, automated voltage-control strategies for distribution networks.
  • Validate proposed controllers using offline simulations, real-time simulators, and cyber-physical co-simulation.
