Job summary

NTNU is hiring a PhD Candidate in the Department of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering to work on an AI-enabled automated platform for 96 parallel cell-culture experiments. You will join a multidisciplinary team in robotics, mechatronics, sensors, and cloud-based analytics.

The role involves developing automated hardware-software solutions, contributing to drug discovery advances, and collaborating with industrial partners.

Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Robotics, Engineering Cybernetics, Product Development, or Industrial Design Engineering with a major independent project (≥30 ECTS).
  • Experience in robotics and automation or mechatronics and embedded systems is required.
  • Excellent English skills (oral and written).
  • Ability to independently conduct engineering projects and take systems from concept to validation.

Responsibilities

  • Complete the doctoral education leading to a PhD degree.
  • Conduct high-quality research within robotics, mechatronics, and product development.
  • Design, prototype, and validate robotic and mechatronic systems for automated handling, positioning, and monitoring of biological experiments.
  • Develop hardware-software solutions integrating sensors, actuators, control systems, and cloud-based data acquisition.
  • Publish results in international journals and conferences.
  • Collaborate with industrial and research partners.
  • Contribute to teaching and supervision in relevant courses.
