Job summary

NTNU invites applications for a PhD Candidate in Empirical Software Engineering in the Software Engineering group, Department of Computer Science, Trondheim. The role focuses on empirical studies, continuous software engineering, and publishing in leading journals and conferences with close collaboration with industry.

Candidates must hold a Master’s degree in computer science (with a major independent project, minimum 30 ECTS), strong English, and be prepared to submit a 1500-word project

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in computer science or equivalent with a major independent project (minimum 30 ECTS).
• Strong academic background with average grade at least B on NTNU’s scale, or an equally good academic foundation.
• Proficiency in English as a professional language (written and spoken).
• Attach a 1500-word project outline detailing research questions, theory and methods.

Responsibilities

• Develop research-based knowledge on continuous software development grounded in empirical studies.
• Carry out empirical studies in Norwegian software companies and publish in recognised journals and conferences.
• Conduct own studies and participate in project teams with master's students.
• Contribute to teaching activities, including lab sessions and supervision.
• Collaborate with organisations in public and private sectors as career-promoting work.
