Job description

Overview:

We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Mechanical Engineer to join our design team, working on the next generation of high-performance electric motors. This is a mechanical design role with a strong emphasis on designing components for manufacturability, including responsibility for production tooling design and close collaboration with manufacturing and production engineering teams.

You’ll be responsible for turning motor concepts into production-ready mechanical designs, with hands-on involvement in CAD, detailed drawings, BOM and PLM management, and ensuring components are developed with production in mind. This is a great opportunity for an engineer who enjoys working at the intersection of design precision and real-world manufacturing constraints.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Own the mechanical design of components for Alva’s electric motors, from concept through production readiness.
  • Design components and associated production tooling, ensuring manufacturability, consistency, and quality at scale.
  • Create and maintain detailed 3D CAD models, technical drawings, and assemblies using GD&T and industry best practices.
  • Manage and maintain BOMs, ensuring accuracy, clarity, and traceability throughout the product lifecycle.
  • Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams—including electrical, systems, and production engineering—to align designs with functional and manufacturing requirements.
  • Support structured development workflows through PLM systems, including revision control and configuration management.
  • Assist in prototyping and testing efforts, and contribute to continuous improvements in design quality and process efficiency.

Key Qualifications & Experience:

  • Experience in mechanical design, ideally for precision hardware or electromechanical products.
  • Strong proficiency in 3D CAD and mechanical drawing standards, including GD&T.
  • Experience designing components with a focus on manufacturing tooling and production-readiness.
  • Familiarity with BOM management and product lifecycle tools (PLM) in a structured engineering environment.
  • Strong attention to detail, documentation, and design intent.
  • Experience with prototyping, testing, or supplier collaboration is a plus.
  • FEA or mechanical simulation experience is a bonus but not required.
