Job summary

Allscreens Nationwide Ltd is seeking a Lead CCS Engineer to provide technical expertise in the development and implementation of rail signalling, control, command, and communications standards and projects within the rail industry. This role will shape requirements, guidance, and industry best practice across conventional and digital signalling systems.

Qualifications

  • Degree or professional qualification in Engineering, Mathematics, Science, or a related discipline.
  • Experience within the rail industry, ideally in signalling, control systems, or railway operations.
  • Strong understanding of railway systems, signalling technologies, and systems engineering principles.
  • Knowledge of rail safety, interoperability, and industry standards.
  • Experience managing technical documentation, requirements, and change control processes.
  • Strong analytical, communication, presentation, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively across multidisciplinary teams.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Project.
  • Knowledge of ETCS/ERTMS and digital railway technologies.
  • Experience with systems modelling or operational modelling techniques.
  • Professional registration or membership of a relevant engineering institution.
  • Leadership, coaching, or mentoring experience.
  • Experience working with technical committees and senior industry stakeholders.
  • Interest in emerging technologies and innovation within the rail sector.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the development and maintenance of rail signalling and control system requirements, standards, and technical guidance.
  • Support projects relating to ETCS/ERTMS, conventional signalling, train control and protection systems, traffic management, communications, and related technologies.
  • Analyse system capabilities, operational interfaces, and industry requirements to improve safety, performance, and interoperability.
  • Collaborate with engineering, operational, and industry specialists to develop fit-for-purpose solutions.
  • Represent the organisation at industry forums, technical committees, and stakeholder meetings.
  • Facilitate industry consensus on new and revised technical requirements.
  • Author and review technical standards, guidance documents, and project outputs.
  • Support research initiatives and the implementation of new technologies and best practices.
  • Provide technical advice to project managers and senior stakeholders.
  • Monitor industry developments, innovation, and international best practice to identify opportunities for improvement.

Job description

Lead CCS Engineer to provide technical expertise in the development and implementation of rail signalling, control, command, and communications standards and projects with one of our clients within the rail industry. This role will play a key part in supporting the evolution of the UK rail network through the development of requirements, guidance, and industry best practice across conventional and digital signalling systems.

The successful candidate will work closely with industry stakeholders, technical committees, and project teams to support the delivery of innovative solutions covering signalling systems, train protection technologies, traffic management, communications, and emerging rail technologies.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the development and maintenance of rail signalling and control system requirements, standards, and technical guidance.
