Job summary

Mercor seeks a meticulous Japanese language annotator to build training data for diverse document layouts. You will identify page regions, bound them accurately, and transcribe text with kanji, kana, furigana, and handwritten content, preserving layout and reading order.

You will source accessible Japanese PDFs, annotate relationships, and ensure high-quality results that pass peer review, contributing to datasets used for training vision-language models.

Qualifications

• Native Japanese with full command of kanji, hiragana and katakana, including furigana and variant character forms.

Responsibilities

• Source documents: find publicly accessible Japanese PDFs with multimodal elements and record source.
• Annotate structure: identify and bound every meaningful region and assign component types and reading-order indices.
• Record relationships: link regions to parent figures/tables.
• Transcribe faithfully: reproduce text exactly, including kanji, kana, furigana, and handwriting; flag unreadable regions.
• Capture page metadata: language, document type, source, dimensions, and flags for tables, formulas and handwriting.
• Review: undergo second expert review and ensure accuracy.
