As the HSE Coordinator at Nscale, you will be the guardian of safety, health, and environmental sustainability across our data center facilities. Operating in a high-voltage, mission-critical environment, you will work closely with site managers, engineers, and contractors to build and embed a world-class safety culture. This role is crucial as we scale our pipeline—balancing fast-paced growth with absolute regulatory compliance and hazard mitigation. If you are a proactive HSE professional who thrives on operational discipline, clear expectation-setting, and transforming compliance standards into everyday workplace habits, this role is for you.
Your mission will be to maintain an incident-free environment, ensure robust regulatory compliance, and raise the bar on physical plant and personnel safety:
Safety Culture & Expectation Setting: Actively champion and enforce a zero-harm safety culture on‑site. Set crystal‑clear expectations for all personnel, including local staff, visiting international specialists, and external contractors.
Compliance & Risk Management: Monitor, interpret, and ensure absolute compliance with local and regional health, safety, and environmental laws (e.g., Arbeidsmiljøloven / Working Environment Act in Norway, FSE, and relevant ISO standards like 45001 and 14001).
Audits, Inspections & Remediations: Conduct regular site safety walks, hazard identifications, and comprehensive HSE audits. Lead the cleanup and remediation of any legacy non‑compliant solutions or physical risks identified on site.
Incident Investigation & Reporting: Participate in the investigation of incidents, near misses, good catches, non‑conformities, deviations and environmental events. Support root cause analysis, implement corrective and preventative actions, and maintain accurate records within the EcoOnline EHS management system and in line with regulatory requirements.
HSE Training & Onboarding: Completing comprehensive site safety inductions, verifying Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) governance, and emergency response training. Confirm and document all managers and technicians possess deep, practical knowledge of workplace safety protocols.
Environmental Monitoring: Oversee environmental compliance, tracking waste management, energy metrics, and sustainable site operations to align with both municipal requirements and corporate ESG goals.
Training & Development: We are committed to investing in the right candidate. Where experience or qualifications are desirable rather than essential, Nscale will provide the necessary training and professional development to support success in the role.
HSE Background: 5+ years of dedicated experience as an HSE Coordinator, Safety Officer, or working within health and safety management, ideally in a heavy industrial environment (e.g., data centers, oil & gas, construction, power generation, or maritime).
Relevant Credentials: Degree or professional certification in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Science, or a related technical field (e.g., NEBOSH General, IOSH working Safely or country‑specific equivalents).
Advantageous Experience: Fire Marshal, First Aid, Mental Health and 40 Hour HSE
Regulatory Competency: Deep working knowledge of regional occupational health and safety legislation, industrial environmental laws, and standard risk assessment methodologies.
Systems Proficiency: Experience using digital EHS management systems for incident reporting, risk assessments, inspections, audits and corrective action tracking. Experience with EcoOnline EHS is highly desirable; training will be provided for the right candidate.
Firm Yet Collaborative Communication: Fluent in Norwegian; strong proficiency in local language is required for supporting community relations and regulators. You must be comfortable addressing non‑compliance directly but constructively. English is required to a decent standard.
On‑site role: Willingness to work on‑site in Glomfjord.
Conflict Resolution & Leadership: Exceptional interpersonal skills with the ability to influence behaviors at all levels—from giving clear directives to managers to training local technicians. Building a good Health and Safety Culture.
Meticulous Eye for Detail: A sharp analytical mind capable of identifying subtle risks or procedural gaps before they lead to an ER case or compliance failure.
Travel: This role is primarily based at our Glomfjord site; however, occasional travel may be required to support business needs, including visits to other Nscale locations, project sites, training courses, audits, or meetings.
