Job summary

NIO Norge seeks an independent, senior accountant to join the Lysaker, Oslo-area finance team. The role combines general ledger and chief accountant responsibilities and reports to the Head of Finance in Norway. You will be part of a highly skilled local team and may grow into broader accounting duties over time.

The successful candidate will perform month-end close, balance sheet reconciliations and VAT/payroll coordination, while driving process improvements and system optimizations.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field.
• Minimum 5 years of accounting experience, with 3 years in general ledger.
• Strong NGAAP knowledge; US GAAP or IFRS a plus.
• Proficiency in SAP; English fluency required; Norwegian or Mandarin a plus.

Responsibilities

• Perform manual general ledger postings, accruals, closing tasks and balance sheet reconciliations.
• Monitor postings and reconciliations for accuracy and timeliness.
• Maintain end-to-end accounting control across manual and automated processes.
• Supervise payroll accounting and VAT reporting with external providers.
• Drive process optimization and automate routine controls.
• Support annual audits with the reporting team.
• Collaborate with business units, IT consultants and finance partners on system enhancements.
• Assist with ad hoc accounting tasks as needed.

This is an independent contributor role with no direct staff management responsibilities. The position is based in our Lysaker office in Oslo and reports to the Head of Finance in Norway. The successful candidate will be part of a highly skilled local finance team of six finance professionals. As the role expands, there is potential for involvement in accounting responsibility scope beyond Norway. The position combines general ledger and chief accountant responsibilities, with the exact designation depending on the candidate’s experience and seniority.

Key Responsibilities:

• Perform manual general ledger postings, accrual bookings, balance sheet reconciliations, and other month-end closing tasks.
• Monitor transaction postings and reconciliations to ensure accuracy and timeliness.
• Maintain end-to-end accounting control, ensuring quality in both manual and automated processes.
• Supervise and review payroll accounting and VAT reporting performed by external service providers.
• Drive process optimization by standardizing and automating workflows, designing, and executing routine control processes both manually and automatically.
• Support the annual audit process in collaboration with the reporting team.
• Collaborate with business units, finance partners, and IT consultants to enhance financial applications, configure accounting settings, conduct voucher testing, and implement process improvements.
• Assist with ad hoc accounting tasks as needed.

Qualifications & Experience:

• Bachelor's degree or higher in Accounting or a related field.
• Minimum of 5 years of accounting experience, with at least 3 years in general ledger accounting. Experience in manufacturing, automotive, or technology industries is preferred.
• Strong knowledge of Norwegian GAAP (NGAAP). Experience with US GAAP or IFRS is a plus.
• Proficiency in SAP is required; technical SAP knowledge is an advantage.
• Excellent written and spoken English. Fluency in Norwegian or Mandarin is a plus.
• Independent, self-motivated, and capable of working under pressure.
• Strong organizational, planning, and prioritization skills with a results-oriented mindset.
