Romulus Police Depar seeks a Full-Time Master Mechanic to maintain and repair City equipment and vehicles, diagnose problems, perform preventive maintenance, and document time and materials.
Under DPW supervision, you will service engines, transmissions, hydraulics, brakes, electrical systems, and install equipment like plows and sanders. Must hold Michigan Master Mechanic certifications and a CDL A, with strong computer skills.
Under the supervision of the DPW Director or his/her designee, functions as Master Mechanic, performing a wide range of mechanical maintenance and repair activities on all the equipment and vehicles used by City personnel. Activities include diagnosing and/or troubleshooting problems, correcting malfunctions and performing routine preventative maintenance on vehicles and equipment. Makes mechanical adjustments, rebuilds, rewires, overhauls and installs additional equipment to vehicles. Maintains records of time and materials used on each job. Must be able to use analyzing computer.

Education: Possession of a high school diploma or its equivalent with courses taken in vocational technology.
Experience: A minimum of five years as an automotive mechanic or equivalent experience.
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
Valid Operator’s License – Must be appropriately licensed to operate City-owned vehicle consistent with work assignment.
Must have a State of Michigan Mechanics Certification: Master Mechanic Automobile, Engine Repair Auto, Automobile Transmission Auto, Manual Transmission and Axles Auto, Front End and Steering Auto, Brakes and Braking Systems Auto, Electrical Systems auto, Heating and Air Conditioning Auto, Engine Tune Up Auto, Gas Engine Repair Heavy-Duty Truck, Brakes and Braking Systems Heavy-Duty Truck, Electrical Systems Heavy-Duty Truck.
Possession of a valid Michigan Commercial Drivers License (CDL) A endorsement. (Within 90 days of job award). N endorsement (tanker) recommended but not required.
Able to identify and articulate the need for new equipment to perform the duties in their Department. To provide written specifications/documentation required to identify equipment/tools to their superiors when asked. Must have a working knowledge of basic computer skills such as but not limited to Microsoft Word, Excel and other programs required for the full operation of the Department.
Must be able to maintain a positive work environment within their Department to fully utilize personnel to their full potential.
